I love my wellies....granted I do live in the sticks but they really are quite comfy and soooooo easy to get on and off! They are pink with love hearts on them so I dont look like a complete farmer, I think wellies should make a comeback!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,430 ✭✭✭Sizzler

Do you wear them around town though  More than a few people wearing them around Dublin city centre at the mo.

    Only at festivals tbh

I wore my wellies to work in the rain this morning. They are still very much an essential part of any girl's or, for that matter, guy's wardrobe. They are very practical especially for the Irish weather.
    Did anybody else wear their's?

This is your 6th thread about wellies....whats the obsession?
No, i dont have wellies, i dont feel the need to wear them even though i live in the country.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,900 ✭✭✭rannerap

they became too much of a fashion thing its just stupid wearing a pair if you don't live in the country

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 36,634 ✭✭✭✭Ruu_Old

^Agreed, they are for walking in muck or maybe festivals, nothing more.

I love my wellies but I live in the country and wear them a lot...however, I have an excuse, my garden is mucky & I have 4 dogs who make it even more mucky...wearing them to work is ridiculous.

Wellies are not a part of anyone's wardrobe, never mind a definitive part. They are a cheap practical way to avoid cold, wet feet and the onset of trench foot. They are used in extreme wet and mud by farmers. Splashing along in little puddles in an urban setting is stupid. It's akin to wearing a wet suit in the rain. There are plenty of ways of keeping your feet dry without looking like a moron or a slave to stupid fads. Patterned wellies in particular, make people look like twats.

I don't see the point in them other than for muckin about in the rain at festivals which is where I think most people buy them for

    For example...?

Too long had I put up with the wet creeping up the legs of my jeans to the backs of my knees or having freezing cold feet with soaking socks, then cute patterned wellies came into the shops and suddenly I was going out a lot more when it rained and was warm and dry.

I think that this welly "Fad" is a fantastic thing.

have you tried the internet? I have bought wellies from www.welly4u.ie -i think they sell yellow ones as well - They are very good and have a courier service so postage fees are minimum!

oh you must live in Limerick city!!!

alot of people think wellies are cheap - think again - the best wellies are called hunters and a pair would cost about €90!!! so they must be aimed at the more aristocratic landed gentry crowd!

    :D

i think there is a little bit of a snob element in wearing wellies - i think some people wear them in public to show that they own land and therefore looked up to!

    are wellies a no no?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,628 ✭✭✭Asok

No, They make you look like a farmers daughter / son who just fell up the train tracks looking for a loose calf.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 36,634 ✭✭✭✭Ruu_Old

No, only for festivals or mucky fields. Anywhere else looks ridiculous and you just look like a clown.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,145 ✭✭✭DonkeyStyle \o/

It depends on where I am.
On a farm or large mucky building site, definitely... normal day-to-day city life... lol no tbh.

Some girls look cute in the patterned wellies that are out atm, and it brightens up the day a bit. As far as fashion fads go they are better than 3/4 length black leggings *gags*

haha yea, one of my best friends is a size 9!!

She's about the same height as me (5'10"/5'11") I'm a size 8, but my feet fit my body if that makes sense?? I'd look rediculous if i had tiny feet supporting such a tall body!!
