PC booting in safe mode only

I have a PC which runs Windows 98 which has started booting in Safe Mode only. There has been no change of any kind made to the PC in years. On opening control panel error messages for the A: drive appear. I haven't got a clue as to what is going on.

maybe it's a virus/spyware problem? tried running scans in safe mode?

If you tap the F8 key when the computer starts, it should give you an option to boot into Normal mode. Give that a go.
