    Hi

myself and 3 lads are going to Amsterdam in September for 3 days booking flights through aerlingus.com. booking the hotel is a bit of a task so many hotels good and bad reviews.

can anyone recommend a good hotel near or in the city centre of Amsterdam

    thanks in advance
    Paul

You really need to give people some idea of what you want to spend. Budget hotel? Hostel? Midrange? 4 star? 5 star?

    Prins Hendrik.
Nice spot, good price. It's also only about a 2 minute walk from the train station and is within a 3 minute walk to everything Amsterdam has to offer.

Also Hotel Atlanta is alright. Very cheap, but standards aren't the best. But it's in a nice relaxed location and directly over a good Irish pub. About a 15 minute walk from the city center.

I thought the Atlanta was a bit of a kip, but as with so many hotels, it can be hit and miss. I think the RHO is good value and excellen location - Damm Square. The Sint Nicolaas is an old favourite of mine, but is starting cost too much for what you get. This time around, I am staying at one of the Golden Tulip hotels on Nieuwezijdskolk, which is very central... costs a little more, but its good quality.
I use www.booking.nl to search for Amsterdam hotels and find it useful. Also, I suggest you look at TripAdvisor reviews, before you book anything. Its an excellent resource.

I stayed at the HOTEL ESTHEREA last year. Its probably to classy for a bunch of lads but its a great hotel with great service, good location ( 1 min walk to O'Reillys Bar)

There are some really bad hotels so be careful.
I booked on www.hotels.com and got a good rate

Take a look at Amsterdam cribs: http://www.hostelworld.com/hosteldetails.php/AmsterdamCribs-Amsterdam-14332

It is very central and u will get a self contained apartment with a kitchen and living room. More expensive than a hostel, and prob not as nice as a 3/4 star hotel, but it is still very good value.

How did the City Hotel work out?

I've booked the Tulip Inn Centre for an upcoming trip after a lot of reading tripadvisor etc.
It's 270 euro for 2 nights but it seems that's what you need to pay to get something half decent and central.

Stayed in the Ibis Amsterdam City Stopera last time I was over, if you staying weeknights it will be in around your budget, I think its more expensive at the weekend. Its around 10 minutes walk away from the centre.
