right, got myself a degree in microelectronics but finding meaningful work pretty impossible, requirements for all the high end jobs like mixed signal design, fabrication of ic's, asic and embedded design, etc are all like 5 yrs exp etc.

was thinking of doing some research but im 32......would be crazy it seems and my friends would say im a total waster, lol.

so are you thinking you will pretend you have a MSc on your CV?

I wouldn't advise it tbh, maybe if it was in a large industry sector, but in electronics everyone knows everyone else and will know if you have made something like that up.

Besides if we are looking for someone with 5 years experience, we want 5 years experience, an MsC doesn't count for anything extra in that scenario. The experience of practical design issues, dft, tools etc are something very few learn at any level of education.

If you don't mind me asking how are you 32 with a degree and less than 5 years experience? That's the same age as me!

    lolz

no, i would do my year and get it the hard way. i mean changing my dob on the cv, thats all.

if you do research its easie to get work in this field. but a bare bones degree isnt much.

And then if you get the job and ask you to do something your supposed to know?

Padding your CV is quite common these days but I would never lie about something as important as that.

I'd disagree with that tbh, experience is what counts. research is seldom very relevant unless you get a masters that happens to be designing something that is exactly what an employer needs done. typically what you would complete in an MsC is what you would do in 4/5 months of design in a company that has all the tools and basic building blocks and expertise to help you already there..

Of course I would agree that an MsC is becoming std now.. see the thread over on eng.. I spouted on over there for a while about the value of them (or not)
