alternative ps2 game save question

Right, rather than buy one of those memory card convertors off the net, would I be able to download the game saves off somewhere like gamefaqs (pal ones obviously) and put them onto a memory stick via the psp, then onto the ps3 to use? Or does something have to be done with game saves off the net to make them playable
