Sky+ and Powercuts ???

    Hi All,

I killed the power at the fusebox last weekend to wire a light fitting.

Sky+ would only give me a plain blue screen afterwards?

    - No messages or any other symptoms - just a plain blue screen.....

Went surfing for answers and tried a few remedies incl. full system reset, downloading the firmware/system restore [can't remember exact terms - was generally surfing forums etc]

    No luck with anything.

Powered it off and gave up as a lost cause & was planning on calling Sky.

Decided to try once more the next day > 24 hours later and it just started as per usual.........

Anyone recognise this situation or these symptoms ? Is the box faulty ?

P.S. There is no phone line involved since the installer drove off - in case this has a bearing on things

    Hi Raiser,
Only time I've seen what u describe was back in Jan when a buggy software was released, however disconnecting the box and leaving unplugged for two minutes usually sorted this problem.

U say u have done the forced Software download? If not unplug ur box for 2minutes and then press and hold the backup button on the front of the sky box and then reinsert the power whilst still holding the backup button.

After a few seconds three lights should light up on the front of the box and a message appear on the screen. It is imperative the box is not disconnected during the software update.

    I hope I can help,
    Steve Limerick based

    Hey Steveon,

Thanks for your advice - that worked out the finest.

    - I had been switching the box off at the mains & waiting - but def. not for as long as two minutes.... Just too damn impatient.......

    Appreciate the assistance :)

Somewhat related, I have a dodgy fuss box which frequently trips for no apparent reason. If the sky+ box(HD) is in the middle of a recording a program when the power comes back it starts recording again from the point the power was cut off but the first half of the program is lost. Its a real pain but I don't suppose there is much I can do about it other than fixing the fuse box.

Put a PC UPS (150W is fine) on the Sky+ box.

That's an excellent idea, I never thought of it. Thank you.
