Fedora Core 6 refresh rate

    I am complete newbie to linux, and have just installed FC6 on my PS3. whenever I start up 'init 5' the GUI i get a garbled screen, it looks like the refresh rate is messed up, does anyone know how I adjust the display settings for the GUI in the text mode?
