I've decided to go ahead and get a 30D body, assuming I can sell my 400D. The best prices I've found, such as this one, are all from Hong Kong based retailers.

What would be everyone's experiences in ordering from there?

I've ordered a few times from UR Galaxy now. My last delivery was this morning. I only ordered the lens on Tuesday, delivery is really fast. I've never had any problems with them.

Price sounds attractive, hmm, how do you feel of paying 21% charges in VAT whilst customs clearance???Since January, they have tightened up screws on importers. A mate of mine got lovely Columbia boots over ebay worth 90 us dollars then paid 44euro in vat&duties which is ridiculos indeed.
UR Galaxy promise NO VAT to UK customers but being Irish customer I'd think twice.

I've bought the 400D and a lens from Hong Kong Supplies on ebay, as well as a camera bag and a few other bits and bobs from other HK sellers and haven't heard a word about tax/customs. Everything arrived well packaged and working perfectly. And a lot cheaper!
(Just don't order the day before the Chinese New Year holidays - that extra week of waiting almost killed me!)

I bought a Sony A100 in the sony centre in HK after christmas (while I was on a stop over) for €890, I got the body, dual lens kit, additional flash, extra batter, two sony cases and 2 x 2GB cards.

It is covered under the UK warranty.

I'm only new to this photography lark and now need to learn how to use the thing .. I will be using it mainly for taking snaps of amatuer football and junior soccer.

Sounds optimistic, maybe parcels from HK are less affected then US ones, anyway, best of luck, fingers crossed!
