Broken Floyd Rose...worth replacing?? :(

A few months ago the Floyd Rose on my Jackson broke and every few weeks or so I try homemade methods of trying to fix it to no avail, or just temporary fixes.

The problems are that the screws (on the nut & bridge) have worn down so I can't fit the Alan keys in them, the holes some of them go into have frayed so they won't go in fully, the knife edges (on the Floyd itself & the poles holding it up) have worn down (probably because I never knew to lubricate them often, oops :o ) so they move out of place, detuning it like crazy. One screw is broke due to my frustration and I heard these are absolutely outrageously priced to replace (plus, I can't seem to get it out!). There are also small problems with the guitar itself, like missing volume knobs (no biggy) and the pick-up switch box must be broken because it no longer clicks to different positions when I move it (although it does change pick-ups).

I really love this guitar and hate the thought of replacing it because I've had it for so long and it has sentimental value to me (although I've treated it quite bad, I know). Would you say it would be a waste of time fixing it? Should I buy a new guitar? If so, what would you recommend? I'm looking for a mean shred machine. I've not been able to shred for ages because I've been using my Fender (although, she can be a screamer too ;) ) I miss the oul bit of Satch or Vai, and of course 24 frets :D . I've heard Ibanez guitars are great for the price...

    Thanks for any help,

    Davitt

Hmmm. I'm having a look at them now and yes, they are quite cheap! I was searching on Thomann for Floyds and they were asking for 200+, guess I've got to look around...

Bear in mind your Jackson one is more than likely licenced and, therefore, may not be the same size as a real Floyd, so stick to Jackson parts and you should be grand.

If you do decide to go on and get a new guitar, then I definetly cannot recommend Ibanez enough. Make sure you get a made in Japan one though. ;)

And whether you fix it or buy a new one, go easy with those allen keys. None of the bolts (nut, bridge, wherever) need to be particularly tight, even the bolts on the string retaining block dont need too much tightening.
