fairplay to the lad first of all, he certainly picks up wickets

but i wanna know is, how on earth is his action legal?

it seems more of a baseball throw then a cricket bowl, his arm is nearly side on when he lets the ball go ,i thought that was deemed illegal

whats the crack with this, you hear people slagging off Murali for his action, which in my mind is total bull****, his seems grand, but this Malinga chaps is all over the shop

    someone please explain

Haven't looked into it too much but his action is definitely weird. From how I see it his arm is straight when he bowls so there's no problem. Bringing his arm from right to left instead of top to bottom when he bowls is very odd though. Would have thought it'd be quite hard to bowl a consitent line and to bowl straight like that.

Murali's action has been called into question many times because he slightly bends his elbow when he bowls. At a glance it certainly looks like a throw but people have actually done alot of research into Murali's action and deemed it to be legal, just. There's a leeway given to how straight your arm has to be, i'm not sure exactly what it is but Murali's inside it.

i just thought the arm had to be straight.

As for muri....well... i'll say nothing!;)

There have been plenty of slingy action bowlers down the years. Unorthodox and more rare than they used to be.

Shaun Tait has a bit of a sling, but not as pronounced as Malinga. Tait's action would be, if compared to hands on the clock, released at 1 o'clock, where Malinga is almost a quarter past 4 :D

I *believe* (and am willing to be corrected) that if your action starts with a bent arm it has to continue with a bent arm and if it starts with a straight arm, it has to continue with a straight arm.

And the maximum allowed bend in the arm has to be like 15 degrees or something. Murali's action stays bent right through due to a birth defect which means his arm is naturally curved. They have put his elbow in a special cast which does not allow it to bend and got him to bowl his flipper, topspinner and trade mark "doosra", making it deemed legal, i guess.

Always wonder how Malinga's action is legal, but i guess once it stays straight the whole way through, it doesnt matter. Very unorthodox, But it flies exactly on line to where he wants to put it, so i guess there's nothing wrong once it works :)

I can only guess that some of you have only just started watching cricket. Malinga's action is perfectly legal. He has a round-arm action but that is not to say that he throws. I'd be concerned about Shaun Tait's action as it seems to me that he throws his "effort" ball.
