I have 80% to 90% quality on my Astra 2 (Lidl).
However, Moovies4Men and Russia today are between 40% and 48%. How come when it is on the same satelite?

I wouldnt take any notice of the signal levels shown on FTA boxes as they usually aren't accurate but in response to your question, different channels are on different transponders and lie in either the vertical and horizontal position.

You are in fact picking up channels from two different satellites namely the Eurobird1 Satellite which is located on 28.5 degrees east and the Astra Satellite Located at 28.2 degrees east, so you are actually picking up channels from two different channels at the same time. You may also not have your dish centered for the horizontal position but if the channels aren't breaking up then leave it be for now

    Hope that helps,
    Regards
    Steve

hi steveon, i had been wondering the same thing thanks for answer.
i bought the maplin satellite suitcase a couple of weeks back (works great!) got the channels by just sticking the dish out the window.

just wondering what you mean by "You may also not have your dish centered for the horizontal position"?

And, (I haven't a clue) even though this 35cm dish has no problem picking up Astra 28 east would it be too small to pick up other satellites in Dublin ? Thanks

35cm would go dead in bad weather and you won't pick up much else with it. Make sure you know whats on other satellites as most people have no interest in them except for the technology success part, look at www.flysat.com to get the list

There are FOUR satelllites used for "Sky"
    Eurobird 1, Astra 2A, Astra 2B and Astra 2D at 28.2°E

I have a couple of channels not working great.

Also even on the same satellite not all the transponders (Transmitters) are the same power. (A transponder has 5 to 20 channels depending on quality and resolution).

Also some satellites have different beams (different aerials) we can be on the edge of a beam (Central Europe Beam on Eurobird 1).

35cm is toy for good weather.

thanks for replies. so far so good with the dish even a couple of weeks ago in the rain i had 70% signal for bbc's and itv's and about 45% for horror channel. If it stays that way I'll be happy!

Also a big difference on SOME of the satellites between South East and Mid West or further west /north of Ireland. UK uses tiny dishes in London.
