Exam Time-tables

    Well this is simple:

1)- What can we do to get our timetables quicker. I would propose going into our department offices and asking why they are not available and then lodging a complaint (pending on whether they are available or not obviously).

    2)-When are they usually released?

I don't need to rant about the various reason various people would like to know when their exams end, but feel free to.

What has been done in the past about this. I know it ahs been passed/brought up numerous times in TCDSU council but what is being done except kindly asking at college board meetings?

Departments don't make the exam timetable, they just post it on their noticeboard. You'd need to contact the examinations office.

They should be released in the next week or two.

I don't know what has actually been done to improve this situation, and I don't really care tbh cos this is my last year :D

Complaining to the department wouldn't really help. Edit: Well, except if there's a problem with the timetable.

    3.3. EXAMINATION TIMETABLES
The timetabling of written examinations for undergraduate courses is the responsibility of the Examinations and Timetables Officer in the Senior Lecturer's Area. Timetables for the annual examinations are published in early April, and in late August for the supplemental session. Copies of relevant examination timetables are sent to academic schools/departments and faculty offices, and are published on departmental and course noticeboards.

You could get someone to ask at Board, but that's not really the place for it. The timetable for decision on timetabling of exams comes to the Undergraduate Teaching & Learning Committee (or at least it did last year). From what I remember of the timetable (this is the timetable for the putting up of the exam timetable) it involved a preliminary call, then the exams office producing a draft timetable, that being sent back to the departments, that going back to the exams office again, and possibly once more until it's finalised.

as it happens I just happened to be speeking to the peeps in the exams office today. After a couple of very longs days they are just finishing the timetabling of the annual exams this week. There is no way departments can have them yet if the exams office haven't even compiled them yet.

To be honest, I think timetables are one of those things that require a farsighted approach. at this point, there is NO way, at all, that you can speed up this years timetable. You could try and focus complaints towards next years, but even those who are so willing to try and drive towards change fall flat on their face come their exams :)

Mine still aren't out yet. Would like to know soon so that I can plan my study around them.

When they are released, where does one find them? Or do you get sent an email? Thanks! :o

They should be released this week, or perhaps next according to the link I placed below. They are not placed online unfortunately, you've to find them out yourself. They are also subject to change, so you might want to check every few days in case the department & exams office have together made changes to it.

Chances are you won't even be told whether they are up or not too.

This year is a lost cause, but Andy Byrne had it in his manifesto, and so did Bartley Rock, so it should be fixed next year hopefully

    Cus everyone fulfills manifestos... :p

I *think* the college official date for them is this monday. not 100% on that though. Email I got from the accomodation office stated timetables would be available from the 16th (for if we needed to stay on for longer).

What's weird is that even though we haven't been given even a provisional timetable, I can almost safely say that SS physics, astrophysics and advanced materials will have their 5 papers on:

Mon (21st of may), wed, fri, mon, wed, fri (30th). Cos that's the way it always is...

Also I thought the official date for releasing timetables was the 16th of april???

Apart from accommodations office, where did you hear that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,523 ✭✭✭ApeXaviour

Which, the 16th of april thing? From lots of different people who seem to know their stuff, across varying schools. Still it ain't first hand info so...

    From email:

The Annual Examination Timetables are now displayed on the Engineering student notice boards on the first floor in the Museum Building.

Just got the e-mail and legged it o'er to the Museum building. I've 4 weeks of exams:

Ex. Week 1: Monday (3 hour exam), Wednesday (all others are 2 hour exams)
Ex. Week 2: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday
Ex. Week 3: Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday
    Ex. Week 4: Monday

All afternoon exams. It's a fairly good timetable with only 2 exams on one day after another, but I really wish that the two in my third week were a day apart.

When I was BESS convenor I put lots of effort into trying to sort this out and got all kinds of guarantees from the then faculty dean (now Senior Lecturer), it's disappointing to see the same old problems are still going on.

What type of guarantees? On a college level or for BESS?

BESS. Guarantees on number of weeks before exams timetables would be up, guarantees on maximum number of exams per day for final years and so on.

Sweeet... Mon, wed, fri, mon, wednesday. 23rd to 30th. A whole 9 days to chill in goldsmith then enjoying the pav and sunshine before having to leave. Yes I'm a fan of this timetable.

I have exams from the 25th to the 31st, with one outlying observation on the 7th of June. A nice spread though, so I'm happy.

May 21st - June 7th, two similar modules over the first two days which is good. All seem to be on campus too, phew.

Mine too. Saves on bus trips out to the RDS. Mine are all in Luce Hall, in fact. I never had exams in there before.

I've two exams in the Arts Block! First time I'll have been there for exams.

Plus I finish on the 11th of June in the Exam Hall. Suppose that's somewhat fitting :)
