But if you register with paypal , wouldnt your registration be specific to each voucher so do you have to add a new credit card to your account for each voucher?

    (sorry to deviate)

Yes you have to add each new voucher to paypal, you can just delete the old ones its a pretty simple process.

Can anyone confirm the expiry date for these things is about 4 weeks only from the date of purchase? I note 3V are very cagey about
this, simply saying the expiry date is set randomly

i think its like two month. i bought one on the 23rd march and it expires on 05/07

Slightly off topic but im going on a stag night soon and id rather the hotel didnt have my ordinary credit card number. Has anyone ever used a 3V visa card in a hotel ?

The expiry date is 3months, from whatever month you bought it. If you buy it between the 1st of april and the 31st of april the expiry date will be june 2007. Obviously better to get a voucher at the start of the month.

Wirecard is a better option with lower charges. Fees are €1 per deposit and €0.50 per card use. Much better value than 3v imho.

Think I'll stick with 3V....the deposit methods with WireCard seem to be with wire transfer only and its confusing to say the least. This means lots of messing around with my bank instead of just going into a participating shop with my 3V card. Is wire transfer the same as bank transfer?

Bad English on the wirecard site e.g "deposit funds ONTO your account" doesn't impress me.

Am I right in thinking the first deposit to the wirecard account is free? Or is there a €1 charge? The site doesn't get specific about charges which another worrying thing.

I set mine up last week and did a transfer this week. Yes they take €1 from each deposit and 50 cent per card use.

The advantages as I see them are the card lasts for 2 years and you simply keep adding funds to it. So there is no €350 limit as per 3v.

Wirecard is based in Germany. It costs me nothing to transfer money from my online banking with aib to wirecard (simple IBAN transfer) and it takes 2 working days for the money to get to your card.

3v can go to hell with their limited validity and €350 limit and high charges.

  • Can you withdraw money from your account with WireCard? By the way they have a local account in Dublin for money transfer...this seems better.

They will transfer money to your account if you request it.

Onto is correct, you should not let that bother you.

Why not just pay cash? Hotels don't like to advertise it but you can pay the cash upfront and pay any service charges later.

    Shouldn't it be "INTO"??? :D

    From the Wirecard Service Team:

"We would like to inform you that it is unfortunately not possible to wire the
funds in your Wirecard account to another bank account as the Wirecard account
only serves to fund the Mastercard. However, it is possible to send funds to
    another Wirecard account."

It's not a big thing anyway. I must admit Wirecard looks good. The only real drawback I can see is that if someone gets the details of your card...I see on the "Fees" page there is a "Charges reaching a negative balance" charge.

I can't see how in practice you could ever reach a negative balance.
