E! Online are running a poll to see which show the should try and save this year.

    http://www.eonline.com/gossip/kristin/blog/index.jsp?uuid=52af6b98-eb72-45a0-b27b-7798e6bf906f

I don't think every show is at risk of been canceled but seemingly 5 of the last 6 winning shows have been renewed. I was just wondering what shows the folks on boards would like to save?

    The shows are:

    # 30 Rock
    # The Class
    # Close to Home
    # Crossing Jordan
    # Friday Night Lights
    # Gilmore Girls
    # How I Met Your Mother
    # Jericho
    # Medium
    # The Nine
    # One Tree Hill
    # Scrubs
    # Six Degrees
    # Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip
    # Supernatural
    # Veronica Mars
    # What About Brian

Torn between HIMYM, Veronica Mars and Studio 60 myself.

Was Jericho cancelled? Personally I don't know which one I'd want to save. Perhaps Scrubs as I think it could work if the guy who plays JD quits.

Firday Night Lights is slipping in the ratings ?

That's the one to save anyway.

Out of those shows I would opt to save Veronica Mars and Supernatural.. If i had to choose one of those to save my vote would have to go with Veronica.. I love that show.

Jericho. Its the best thing on television at the moment, makes Lost look pants (cue bashings).

Gotta be Studio 60 for me, although I've not heard of most of the shows.

Probably Veronica Mars and Supernatural. Although Supernatural has a better chance of survival due to higher ratings. But Veronica Mars is such a critical darling for The WB, they may just hold out rolling the dice.

I believe Scrubs is in a unique possition. Aparently if NBC don't pick it up then ABC might. Since ABC and Scrubs are owned by Disney, and ABC has had zero luck with its new comedy shows this season, they may just take up Scrubs to save them for another year.

I think Gilmore Girls has had it. 7 years is a decent run. But then again if 7th Heaven can go on for over a decade, then Gilmore Girls might have a chance. But already some of the cast and crew are sniffing around other pilots and projects. So that does not bode well for its future.

Jericho is on the bubble, although I'm sure the network is number crunching the show right now to see how its doing. Jericho is stuffed with in show advertising, I can't believe its costing CBS much to make.

Studio 60 seems like a goner. The media has cooled significantly with this series after calling it the biggest hope at the start of the new season.

Friday Night Lights seems to have the confidence of NBC behind it, so hopefully will make the cut. I've been impressed with it, since I only vaguely like American football. But so far, the stories are pretty decent.

30 Rock might just become like The US Office and Arrested Development and get renewed purely on its incredibly loyal audience and the critical reception it recieves. If it starts picking up some awards soon, it might just make it.

But I really like the idea of Veronica Mars season 4 should it make it. Going forward into the future and placing Veronica in the FBI would certainly be interesting. And might just capture some new audience areas.

Friday Night Lights has been my favourite new show for years. However, NBCs actions doesn't inspire much confidence. They are fast tracking the first season with two episodes being shown per week and they are going to offer all the episodes online for free following the end of the season in an attempt to spur more interest in the show.

one tree hill or scrubs definitely

Either Studio 60 or Six Degrees for me.

It would also be good to see Scrubs go on but I appreciate shows that go out on a high rather than maunder on indefinitely like Friends.

Six Degrees is also a little different and not flash like many shows.

What I like about them is that they are character rather than plot driven like many of the higher rated shows. I like the quality of the writing and it also helps that they have some good quality actors in them as well.

<rant> I think this is something that too many imported shows suffer from. Pretty people whose dogs can out-act them. Far too many of them getting on our screens and quickly off mine.</rant>

Studio 60 has suffered due the Aaron Sorkin link and by association, the huge success of the West Wing. I think it has progressed well and is starting to develop. That said it does look dead.

Six Degrees didn't perform well initially and was pulled but seeing as it's running in the quiet period now it gives it a chance to perform better .

Many of the other shows I have never watched or just drifted in and out of.
Jericho started out well enough but it's not one that I would miss.

Close to Home is somewhat predictable and there is a lot better out there like Cold Case/The Closer/Boston Legal or Law and Order.

None of them, bring back Arrested Development, better than all of those put together! :p

It has to be scrubs. It is beginning to replace Friends for me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,404 ✭✭✭qwertplaywert

well i would find something else
Zach Braff has confirmed that the next season,if he even does it, will be his last
and the makers say they wont go on without him

    Update from last Thursday:
As of today, the leading shows (in alphabetical order) are Gilmore Girls, One Tree Hill, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Supernatural and Veronica Mars.
Not a shocking list really... but no 'Scrubs'! :(

Gilmore Girls - i've watched 6 seasons of the in the last few months and it is, for the most part, a fantastic show (Lauren Graham and Kelly Bishop are both fantastic in it). Dipped in quality for the last season or two but the two creators / writers (Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino) have been absent for the last season. The CW should just let it go!

One Tree Hill - christ, how is this muck still on the telly?!

Studio 60 - there's an audience for it.. it's not me but there are some die-hard Sorkin fans keeping this in the running.

Supernatural - watched the first season. Was good switch-off-your-brain TV. Mindless clichéd ridden fun. Watched the first episode of the latest season, fell asleep mid-way through and haven't watched once since.

Veronica Mars - i've made my thoughts on this very clear. Latest season was very underwhelming but idea Rob Thomas proposed for a season 3 (** SPOILERS **
It would flick forward a couple of years and Veronica would now be in the FBI, or an FBI academy
) did intrigue me. Can't see it being renewed regardless!

I'll be gutted if Jericho or Supernatural are cancelled.... they're both fun shows. At least if the worst comes to the worst, Supernaturals main storyline will be resolved this season.

Veronica Mars is the best of the shows on the list but its time to let the show go. Too much network inference (mini-arcs, last five episodes all stand alones) is wrecking a great show and the idea for season 4 is terrible.

    So Jericho gets the vote

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,178 ✭✭✭kevmy

Studio 60 or Veronica Mars for me.

Veronica Mars because its still one of the best things on TV. Flicking her forward to the FBI could work but if they do that will they bring anyone else with her (Mac, Weevil etc.) I think thats one of the main ways it's suffered this season myself the poor use of the main cast. Too many of them and not enough of good storylines.

Studio 60 simply because American TV needs it on. Its left wing agenda, constant social debate and good cast with good writers. Sorkin might have been better focusing on the network as a whole rather than just Studio 60 but I still love his way of writing.

'Veronica Mars' S4 - but only if they go with the RT proposal which will freshen it up a lot and dump the boring college routines.

Also I'd like to see a S4 of 'Medium'. I really enjoy this show - think it's one of the best depictions of married family life that I've seen (not that I'd know..) and some good stories in there, with some innovative ways of bringing them across to the viewer (e.g. music, animation, 3D..).

    The Gilmore Girls
Nothing to be ashamed of.. a very funny well-written show (well, series 1 - 3 were fantastic).

As i've said, it has peaked though later seasons.

Wouldn't go that far it was alright for a hammily-acted, poorly-written, totally unbelivable, cliched, piece of tripe with an unoriginal premise and an ugly cast (by TV terms).

No matter how poor Lost gets there'll always be Evangeline Lilly, Emillie de Ravin and Yunjin Kim. And it has picked up nicely of late but thats all very off topic..

Forgot to mention Scrubs in first post but I think if Zach Braff goes it should probably be let gracefully die. A good show but we all know the perils in letting anything go on to long.

Gilmores should definitely be saved, Amy promised us a middle and there has not been a middle!!!!!! Although i think gg fans out there are kidding themselves!! Its done.:o

they do, just at wierd times. they showed season 6 weekday mornings over a month or so last year.

Yeah but no sign of season 7....
    also I work so :-(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 355 ✭✭purplegeko

For me Veronica Mars or the gilmore girls in both shows the writing is so slick its excellent its a shame i love both and i find the comedy in gilmore girls so smart. Watched E! news last week and apparently the girl who plays rory isn't sure she wants to do it anymore and Lauren Graham said she won't do it without her. I think it would still work without her but maybe not as much

The Nine. Starts slowly but gets good as the characters get fleshed out... only in time for it to be cancelled. hurrah.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 542 ✭✭✭lady_j

I dont think it'd make much sense without rory- but then they carried off her going to college well enough...

I'm willing to bet it will crop up in some ungodly slot in the next few months!
Have to say the result of the poll and the way it was carried out sounds really dodgy.

Veronica Mars and what else got picked? They're saving 2 shows now.

Don't think it has been cancelled, and it has gotten SO much better since you stopped watching man. Really really interesting at the moment,I was about to give up on it as well. It still has some corny scenes but some really interesting story lines involving Hawkins and war with a neighbouring town.

Just because they win the E Online Poll doesn't mean they'll get automatically renewed. That's up to the TV execs, not the general public.

Oh.. and the top 2 were Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars in that order.

I'll take your word for it... but i'm just not the slightest bit interested in it right now.

Maybe when the summer drought in TV is taking it's toll on me, i might re-visit it.
