Just after comming back from tesco(maynooth) and when i got to the car checked my receipt and seen it said on it "coke 2L range 2 for €3"

But it is advertised 3 for €4.50, so went back in up to customer service and told the nice woman and got me moneys back for the three of them. So €5.43(1.81 individual price) back into my pocket. They had only cost me €4.81 because i got the offer of 2 for €3, and one single bottle €1.81

    anyways folks worth a try,

ANYONE ELSE FIND ANY MISPRICES LATELY?

That offer is on the banded pack, not on the individual bottle, which did you get?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 335 ✭✭brophy

Yeah i know it is on the branded pack but they did not have any branded ones. These were all individuals. There is a printed sign up as they have a pallet of regular coke and a pallet of diet coke and sign says any 3 for €4.50.

Tesco Maynooth seem to be rather generous - last week they had 75% off finest parma ham and salami packs (very very nice) so instead of 5.22 they were going to be about 1.35 - very nice price.

But it only showed a 33% discount on the receipt - so they gave a full refund on six packs and they didn't take into account the 33% given at the end of the receipt!!Sso the total cost of the items after discount & refund was minus€1.76 per pack - now that's value!!!!

Got a full refund for a 400ml bottle of Pantene Pro-V shampoo. Said €3.34 on the shelf label but came up as €4.99 on the receipt.

Update: Had given the wrong brand of shampoo

Used to work in Tesco in Limerick years ago & there was one guy in particular that would look out for discrepancies in prices.
He'd wait till you had it rung in & you were charging him the money...
    Then he'd pounce!
You'd have to leave your cash register to check the shelf pricing & call over a manager so that it was ok to give it to him for free.

All this would invariably happen at lunch time on a Saturday afternoon when there are at least 10 other customers(with screaming skanger kids attached) queueing at your till & the queue would get infinitely longer as you were trying to resolve the situation...
And all this with a blinding hangover!

I only managed to catch him out once on a multipack of Orange juice & took great pleasure in arguing with him - who says the customer is always right:D

Bought 4 pieces of haddock in Dunnes last week at half price (normally €5 - so supposed to be €2.50)... but when i got back to the flat, they charged me €5.

Luckily Dunnes is a 3 minute walk away, went back and she scanned it in and they were still showing as a €5 so got a full refund. And a "thank you" for bringing it to their attention as anyone else who would have bought the fish would have been charged full price also.

i got the exact same thing in dundrum sc - 75% on the shelf, 33% on the till, they refunded me the full amount so I actually made a profit and kept the salami.

I think it should have been your manager that you directed your frustration at, it is a management/business decision to give products for free if there is a price discrepency. So by giving it free to the customer for bringing it to there attention they can fix it quickly rather than never knowing about it and under or over pricing multiple customers. This is a cheap way for Tesco to screen there pricing rather than continually auditing it themselves (expensive and time consuming), in essence employing the customers to work as price checkers for them. So the customer you speak of was a diligent indirect employee of Tesco :) the fact that his timing was an issue that should have been brought up with your manager who should have addressed the process. eg go to a refund till.

thats not very nice giving out about a man who continually got caught by bad Tesco pricing, he should be annoyed that Tesco doesn't have their prices right. Really get sick of seeing wrong prices at check out and attendant makes me feel criminal when its managements fault especially when they start claiming the offer is over with big sign still up.

Got some foxs biscuits and twirl 5 packs for free in Galway yesterday. Biscuits all marked as half price, but scanned in at full, and twirls marked at 35% off, again scanned at full! The guy that checked came running back with a load of shelf signs in his hand!

basquille -> recently bought travel plugs in dunnes maynooth and they were advertised for €5 but scanned for €8. Girl on till was new, as i said "do i not get that item for free now", she said whe would have to call the manager as she had just started. Manager comes over and says no sorry sir it is only tesco that do that offer "if the item is charged at a different amount that what it is advertised for you get it free". So that was that had a look around to see if they had a small sign up anywhere but to no avail. Just got me €3 back.

Tesco dont do the money back thing any more do they ? I mean as a policy not managers discretion.

Was in Tesco Ashbourne last night and they had a dinner (plates, bowels etc) reduced from €30 to €7.50 but after i checked out i realised they had charged the full whack. so i went to the cust serv desk and got a full refund and the dinner set for free

    It's a good question.
I used to buy a magazine every week called Autosport in Tesco Artane. It was always mispriced and I took full advantage-buy the magazine and then stroll over to customer service and get my money back.

But recently I bought the Sunday Business Post in Tesco Drumcondra. Price is 2.20 and scanned as 2.30. TBH, it's farily criminal to misprice a newspaper that loads of people will buy. Wouln't mind if it was an unusual product but not a newspaper

Argued my best to get the paper for free with the manager and succeded eventually.
Best way to check is to see if the policy is over the Customer Service Desk. It is in Artane but not Drumcondra. I thought there was a company wide policy but maybe not

If I sound like a awkward and contrary customer, I'm not, honest:)

Check the noticeboards hanging behind the checkout area.
Probably not applicable to Drumcondra cos there's a window there, but there should be an area in each store with the 'customer noticeboard', maybe a payphone, suggestion box, etc.
In my local store one of those is a big sign about the No Quibble Policy.

Also, as i understand it, the 'get it for free' policy applies in the following circumstances only: (though it depends on who you're dealing with and the amount of cash involved I suppose).

    * - You've paid for the product
    * - The S.E.L is incorrect (i.e not a hanging sign with a special offer, etc)
    * - The S.E.L is for the correct product, not something similar, other size, etc.

Generally, in other circumstances (a special offer sign is incorrect, the wrong SEL (ie for a different product) is shown, etc) you get the difference back, not the product for free.

Then again, depends on how willing you are to argue, i'm sure most managers would just give you a full refund to get you to STFU.
