I would think that the multiplay server was down for a certain amount of time if you can still use ps3 browser.

    It'll probably come back on.

I was playing Resistance online no bother last night, so I wouldnt think it's the servers.

its grayed out for about 5 seconds when you open the ap ...if you are connected, you will be able to select online when it turns white

When I try to connect to play to COD3, it doesn't matter which game I select to go into. It just will come up with an error message saying that it can't connect to the host. Whats up with that?

thats what free online play gets you, im sure someone will reply with bla bla bla MS sucks, but i wouldnt mind paying 50 euro per year to have something like xbox live on the ps3. They can forget about trying to out do xbox live if they dont even have online support for games like virtua fighter and virtua tennis and whatever other ones dont have it, added to problems with games that do have online support. They should have being working on full online support and HOME and have it all ready before the ps3 even came out! that fact thats its a bit a of a joke atm isnt a good sign for the future. They must be hoping to compete with xbox live with the ps4.

Well actually, when I had my 360, I tryed to play PGR3 online and it was very hard to get a game. I don't like having to pay all the extras, which btw imho is just silly. The PS3 has everything I need for online gameing. I am willing to give it a chance as it is only new.

Question? Would you go out and buy a new car have a problem with it like it does not drive and say ah sure its ok I will give it a chance.

And know there is nothing NEW about online gaming afaik!!!

    Whoops!!!

The reason he has trouble connecting is the same problem as people have connecting on the 360...it's because of strict NAT on the router, you have to forward the ports.
Its got nothing to do with Sony's online service.

Thats the developers, not Sonys, decision. And its known that VF5 on the 360 will have no online play either.

PSN is nowhere near Xbox live yet but give it time. Live has a couple of years advantage and has come on in leaps and bounds since its inception, it wasnt written off right away so why do the same to Sony?

    Just a heads up.

People having difficulty connecting probably have their NAT settings at Moderate or Strict.

You need to make sure you NAT is OPEN in order to really play both 360 & PS3 online - otherwise you will end up unable to join some matches, getting dropped connections etc.

The fact that sony are not making developers include online support is not good as lazy developers arent gonna bother. This is 2007 and not 2002 or whenever xbox live started and sony is not some crappy company. WTF were they doing with their psn while the ps3 was in development? There online support for the ps2 was crap, the online support for the psp is crap and the fact that they dont have a service like xbox live running from day one is not a good sign. The fact that its free, means whatever they offer in the future , the sony fanboys will always say well its free. And the fact thats its free means there under no obligation to provide a great online service. At least if you had to pay a yearly fee then they would have to provide a good service. Xbox live wouldnt be where it is today if it was crap as ppl wouldnt pay money for it. Sony knew they wouldnt have a good online service from day one and couldnt charge for it. And now all of a sudden xbox live is a rip off.

Did you not read the two above posts Mayto???
The reason the chap can't connect is to do with his router security, nowt to do with the "shoddy" online service. Which after all is the reason he posted, he doesn't want to know about the merits of Xbox Live.

and did he say he had it working? i just saw you giving an answer to what could be wrong. Either way, theres problems with the motorstorm servers. Just check this forum if you dont believe me:

Also just to say PSN is on dedicated servers, whereas Xbox Live is not. Now that is a major advantage to have when most developers start copping on to themselves and using online play.

I have the same issue. I have Call Of Duty 3. My PS3 is set up to the net, I can browse the net and access the PS store. I cannot for the life of me fin out what I am doing wrong. I keep getting error messages saying "cannot connect to hots, or connection lost". Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?

well tbh xbox live has been running nicely on consoles now for how many years? its not like sony came up with a new invention or a new piece of technology, its already done, they just had to compete, and they seem to have failed :(
