mma might suffer

I think mma events are going to suffer at the top level-ufc etc..
my reason for this is simple-a lot of the pride fighters like fedor are paid a lot more money than ufc fighters and ufc will have 2 choices now.
    1-pay what there used too.
    2.lose them to other organisations
    fedor has already jumped ship.
This is what will happen as mma fighters get payed bigger purses-there will be a main event like in boxing-and the 2 fighters will demand big pay days,
what happens then is it wont be affordable to have lots of top fights on a bill as the wages would be crippling to the likes of the ufc, this will lead to weaker undercards and more handpicking opposition, at present these lads are not paid big money like in boxing events-de la hoya is getting 25 million dollars for his fight with mayweather! at the moment ufc bills are great with about 4-5 top fights each bill-but i think the top fighters will start to demand what they deserve and dana will have to make cuts somewhere-but there will be only 1 loser-the fans..opinions welcome

    Personally I disagree.

I’m not sure where the rumour started that Pride fighters get paid more than UFC fighters? For his last fight, Chuck Lidell got a basic fight fee of 250,000 dollars. He then got that again for winning.

When Wandy fought Hendo in the States he got 150,000 to fight. And won have gotten the same to win only Hendo dropped him.

Non of the wages paid to the Pride fighters that night were particularly impressive, and I have seen some UFC fighters get paid MUCH MORE than there Pride counterparts.

The real money in the fight game in endorsements and tv spots and films roles and such. You think Chuck bought his house with money won from fighting? He bought it with money earned from saying Xyience rocks and Generic Label Fight Gear is awesome.

But anyway, onto the point of the post. MMA guys will NEVER get 25 million to fight. At least not anytime in the near future. Right now the revenues that come in simply don’t allow it. And the MMA game has yet to be sucked in by greedy “agents” and “image consultants” and all that other **** that bled the life out of boxing.

i dont mean that they'll get 25 million-but if you seen the dunne bill the other week the undercard was of very average standard-this is because most of the money went into the main event-i believe this will be the way it will go in mma aswell-fighters are not sticking with organisations also meaning they can name there price!

    I still disagree.

MMA fans will never sit through 7 sh1te fights just to see one good one. A card needs to have some good possibilities on it for fans to buy the PPV or the tickets.

MMA fans are savy enough to realised that they need to entertained and are paying for their ticket for a reason, not for some kind of fun night out or just to see one person fight.

I don't think any of the orgs can get away with putting on sub standard cards. Sure, some fights might turn out to be sub par or a little dull but hey, that happens. But the majority of cards that have been put on in the last 12 months have had some VERY interesting fights on them for a reason.

Because if they don't the people won't bite.

So are you saying that boxing fans are stupid or something? if you where offered to go and see couture v cro cop would you not pay for it? i would.
as i'd pay to see mayweather v de la hoya if i could afford it! mma fans are fight fans just like any other-i just happen to be 1 by the way.

Cowzerp well done for stating the obvious!! All mma fans know that as the popularity rises the producers wont need to fill the bill's with top fighters as they'll make more money by not paying top rates and will bring in the same money anyway-we all know its the big fight that gets people interested anyway-the rest is a bonus..same as in boxing, same point, in america the bills in boxing do be fairly good as there is more money involved in the tv viewing than here..

Surely most boxing title fights are sold on the basis that they could well go to the final round. Now a boxing match of 12? rounds will last considerably longer than the average MMA fight which generally has some quick stoppages. Therefore An MMA card cant stand as well on its title fight. Or is that rubbish?

o'k-that makes more sense than dragan anyway-fights can end too quick in mma but money talks and once these fighters realise there is more to be earned they will ask for more, surely then they will have to reduce the number of top level fights-and if there going to have regular shows they will need to keep the star names seperated for different bills.
