I am just about to start building on a 1 1/2 story house in donegal and i was wondering what to do with the upper floor should I make it with a bison slab (only name I know to call it) or should i go for timber. I have heard that the slabs a cheaper than timber and also have better sound proofing :)

The slabs will work out a wee bit dearer than timber joists but I would highly recommend them. Apart from the sound proofing aspect that you have mentioned they provide a high level of fire resistance and also allow you the luxury of having all your first floor partitions built in block rather than timber studs.

You need to talk to a structural engineer about this before you start or alternatively to the engineer with the firm who will supply the slabs. Some walls and perhaps foundations may need to be altered to accommodate the slabs.

Thanks for that Muffler. would a 360 digger be able to lift them into place or would you need a crane
