Single-Cab Pickup - Mitsubishi L200, Nissan Navara etc.

Thinking of a single-cab pick-up for light farm/forestery use. Maybe '99-'00. They seem relatively rare here. Most are double cabs yokes (from the closed tax loophole a few years ago). L200 or Navara seem obvious choices.

Does anyone have any experience of any of these? I know my cars fairly well but not so well versed in 4x4s. Any other suggestions? Toyota Hi-Luxs are great but seem overvalued. I've kinda decided against a Defender (although this looks tempting: http://www.carzone.ie/usedcars/index.cfm?fuseaction=car&carID=221934)

My cousin was lookign at that one a couple of weeks back, but decided he didnt want a pickup, still wants a defender though.

OT if it helps at all Ive bought 2 cars off that guy and he's a decent guy , both cars have been tip top.

Ford Ranger is pretty rare on these shores but this one is a single cab and not badly priced (uses the old Transit engine afaik):

a friend of mine was at a motor show when they were launching the TATA pickup. he cut his hand on the door handle, such was the quality of the casting.

That Hi-Lux is interesting...

At the moment I have my local 'guy in the trade' looking one up. Would like to deal with him, he's done right by me in the past but it rather ties my hands as regards pouncing on something off carzone. I'll review things in a week or so. Now that I have my mind made up I'm very impatient!

Sinlge cab pick-ups seem to be rare in this country - a bit more popular amongst the 'cute hoors' in Cork/Kerry I reckon. They're much handier and more versatile than a SWB Pajero/Landcruiser and cheaper too. Can't stand the Tonka-Toy double-cabs - way too big and cumbersome for my needs.
