Boot problem Part Deux

I had a problem with my old pc last week, that it not being able to boot. now the bios was the cuprit for this and i got it sorted. Now the problem is, that i had to change ny ati card * being rma'd * Too my nvidia card, Obviously before i installed the nvidia card i removed all ati drivers, and used driver cleaner, rebooted and installed the newest nvidia ones.

And ever since this i have had nothing but trouble. Device manager shows that my ethernet drivers arnt working, or my usb, wihch i can confirm as they are really slow at transfering, but none the less they worked. Connecting to the internet was fine, but everytime i downloaded anything i would get " nsis " errors. Meaning that the file was corrupt and or damaged. The common problems for this are damaged hdd ( it was fine, used ubcd and ram the samsung tool, all hunky doory ) So im guessing the ethernet ( marvell youkon ) drivers were banjaxed. I tried getting them from www.dfi.com.tw at home but always got the nsis error. So i downloaded them from work today and installed them when i got home, Along witht the newest nf4 drivers from nvidia.

So they installed no problems at all. and i rebooted. And was welcomed by a lovely Bsod. I cleared the cmos and rebooted again and got the same problem multiple times. So i booted into safe mode and restored to last month when all was grand. So did that and rebooted, got as far as the windows splash screen with the green bar. it goes past about 5 times, pauses, keyboard flashes and then it stops.... And dosent do anything at all. Tried rebooting again.... Same thing. I even went back into the bios doube checked everything and was fine.

So i was told that the mbr could be fooked, i i got my cd booted to recover console and did " fixmbr " rebooted and im greeted by the same problem again.... So needless to say im rather pissed off atm.

Does anyone have any solution to this or even ideas i can try ?

    Thanks :)

If you restored the system back one month is that when you had the original video card installed ? If so then these drivers will not be compatible with the new card and may cause the lock up on boot.
Try booting in safe mode and remove video drivers again.Load standard vga driver and see how far you get.

@pduff, yes i can no problems there.

@wigertoods i have removed the drivers with drivercleaner, as the control panel > add remove programs would not remove the drivers in or CCC in there.

Tis really strange this one :(

Im half thinking to get vista and do a full format :/

Whats the benefit of upgrading to vista yet??? its obviously a driver problem if you can boot into safe mode try and disable all graphics drivers using (Device Manager) within safe mode and see what happens

Well the reason being, i cannot install xp again. As i have a once install key. I somehow managed to scam ms out of it.

And the reason ti upgrade to vista is, i can actually buy vista ultimate for 32€ As i work for ms i get it cheap. Plus im starting to get used to it in work.

Its up to you man but i taught the whole idea was not to format, anyway if you can get vista for that price why not upgrade then. Happy formatting :D
