av receiver that is good for stereo also

    Hi

    I have looking to get a surround sound av receiver and new stereo so I was wondering if there is an av receiver that is good for stereo so I can use my DVD player to play CD's rather than having separate systems. I have been told that because they are not designed for stereo they are never as good as a dedicated stereo system. Is this true or is that only if you are a real audiophile? My budget would be around €400 - €500.

    at that price range you won't hear much difference between a surround receiver and a stereo receiver. you can always run the surround receiver in stereo mode for music.

    The Denon 2307 is probably the best reciever for use on movies/music.
    They cost £500 and can only be ordered from certain places in the uk as they are only sold by dealers , by hand.
    It will also recieve all the new HD sound formats over HDMI as LPCM.
    I use the 2307 with monitor audio RS6 , RSLCR , RSFX , RSW12.
    With stereo music it is amazing and has a large range of frequencies.

    The whole setup will be very expensive however.
