Dunno if this is OT,so Mods please feel free to move.

Story is.I have a 1984 Mercedes G wagon, day to day driver, commerical tax,and regd so since it came into the State. Many Moons ago. Have been DOE[commerical vechicle testing] for the last six years, and went in yesterday to arrange a DOE test..without any sucess. Reason given because it has rear seats it is now a NCT test. Nope says I,it is a commerical regd vechicle, taxed as such ,always has been and is so. No says the DOE crowd,we cant test it,as it has seats and they must be removed. Not right says I,as I have been informed that any vechicle pre regd 1987,was exempted from the hideous Irish van conversion of removing glass and seats.[I remember reading thisarticle in the farmers Journal once around 1987 as well]
So much brain melting occurs in the DOE centre. They give me a number to pass it on to higher authorithy for a decision.Whom I cant get hold of.

now,my question is;Who do I get hold of who can confirm this pre 1987 ruling re the exemption of glass and seats, that I can convince these two Gimps in the DOE centre that it is OK for them to do their job?Revenue or Dept of Enviroment?I need somthing on paper so they can cover their butts.
It is a ludcrious situation as they have been DOEing this since I got it with no probs. Can I pay the tax ala the NCT situation that you can tax a vechicle without the nCT cert?
Advice please or better still ...HELP!!!

Check and see will they do a DOE test on the vehicle with the seats removed, and if so, why not remove them for the test and refit immediately once you have the cert.

It should be obvious to anyone from the OP's post that it's a matter of principle, and more more to them for it.
