Does anyone know if this can be removed from a lens? Also what kind of impact will it have on images, in other word does it render the lens useless?

It won't render the lens useless, it will reduce contrast though and may have a very slight impact on perceived sharpness as a result.
There's an old wives tale of sticking your mouldy lens in the freezer to kill it off. It won't remove the existing mould however. You can also get them professionally cleaned, but if the mould has eaten into the glass there will be marks left behind.

thanks Roen, any idea how much it might cost to get a lens cleaned? I'd say its more than likely the glass has been damaged too. The lenses havent been used in years and look pretty bad...

It's spelt "mould" by the way. "Mold" is an American spelling.
It all depends on where you go, if you send it back to the lens' manufacturer you can be sure that it would be done properly, but it would more than likely cost you more.
    How old is the lens?

i'd say you're looking at at least 50 quid - ring the camera repair place in portobello and ask; stripping down a lens, cleaning the elements, and rebuilding it does not strike me as something you'd do in much under an hour.

I also spell color with no 'u' - thats the american in me...google has americanized me...

Not sure how old the lenses are but they havent been used in about 5 odd years. Some of them dont look too bad but others do..not really sure if it would be worth getting them done...

stick them in the microwave, see if that kills the mould.
might also be worth having a video camera on standby to film the results...

Would you not have at them yourself? If you're not sure they're worth it, then you've nothing to lose if things go titsup

I'm not sure how much it would cost FreeAnd. My Mamiya lenses had quite a bit (lot) of mould on them and still produced the goods time and time again.

thanks, I might have a go at them myself..they're not my lenses though and ill probably put them well beyond repair if i go near them..will using them negatively affect any of my gear or would them need to be stored with them for a while before anything bad might spread?
