HDD problem

    A few months ago I bought an internal Western Digital 3.5 inch hdd from ebay - 120gb. I also bought an IDE to USB set to use the HDD as an external hard drive. Everything has been working perfectly except I have run out of space on that drive (don't ask me how!!). So I bought a Maxtor Diamondmax 10, Model 6B300R0 300GB PATA133 HDD for a bit more space, not being to computer savvy I was expecting the same IDE to USE to work with this but the pc isn't recognising the new hard drive at all. Any suggestions?? Or am I wrong in assuming that PATA is the same as IDE?? The IDE to USB kit fits perfectly....

    1 Do some maintenance on the 120gig disk clean and defrag

    2 is it a sata hard drive, try to update the mother board drivers

    3 updates on your OS
