The Scottish guy in the Lingerie Dept in the Christmas episode. He was the one that was sweating and saying that he couldn't go on.

As for real-life, no. Interesting question OP.

    Let me guess?

    Your blond.

There are lots of priests who are blonde, at least they were blonde, but now the chruch only allows men above 60 to be priests so they all have grey hair, grey hair and emotional baggage.

    Since when?

My local priest is 40 if he is a day and got no gray at all.

I was wondering whether grey or gray is the way it's spelt this side of The Atlantic, neither of which is incorrect mind!

I couldn't tell you the last time I saw a priest under 40. Don't get me wrong, I've nothing against them, my father's a priest.

My question was a serious one and not meant to be sarcastic. I was just wondering if it was some new rule.

Outside of that one young priest, the rest that i know are pretty old. (and gray)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,811 ✭✭✭runswithascript

Nah, no new rule because that would be ageist and they get enough flak already over being sexist, homophobic etc.

Priests, despite all the other stuff, are intelligent, educated men. So they couldn't be blonde (fem) or blond. :D

Cleary that was in protest to the sexism, ah no! :D I was wondering about the spelling actually, and also, wasn't he Mr. Blonde in reservoir dogs? My hero!

I'd question how intelligent or educated someone who dedicates their life to something as flimsy as religion is tbh.

You're god damned right. I passed a priest today on my way in here and contemplated acknoledging him somehow like I would have before I was agnostic and then thought why should I go out of my way to be friendlier to this man and not every other man I pass? Any Christian over 20 is an idiot. Amen to that, brother.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,239 ✭✭✭✭WindSock

I too am agnostic. eh, i think. Well i definately dont agree with the church or any other form of religious blackmail, but if a friendly priest says hello to me, I will reply hello father, because that is the title he has earned through hard work and dedication to what he believes is something good.

I too would do this but I wouldn't initiate the exchange more than I would with any other stranger. We must not humour these people :D

At least they're not claiming a male priest can be blonde!

P.S. I wouldn't go around making crass, blanket judgements about people based on what they believe. Because if you do, you are making said judgements based on what you believe. In the end, whichever way you look at it, it's a belief. Incidentally, what's wrong with being a Christian? Did Christ not really exist, and did He not invent/start something which rightly carries His name?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,367 ✭✭✭✭Sleepy

Slow coach, I reserve the right to make a judgement on someone if they believe things for no good reason. Beliefs should be backed up with solid reasoning, logic and/or proof imho and no religion I've come across is founded on any of those things. If a priest feels he has the right to determine that I'm going to hell for my lack of faith / contrition for my 'sins' etc. I feel I'm entirely justified in this.

That said, if a priest says hello to me on the street, I'll respond with a friendly 'how are ya?' or similar because it's simply good manners and they are something I believe in.

There's this guy in The UK who gives lectures about his beliefs which are basically that lizards are secretly running the world, some people suspect that he's talking in code about Jews. Don't you Judge him? What about Adolf? By your logic it doesn't matter that we believe their actions and belief are morally and factually wrong because it's what they believe. Why should christians, and other religious people for that matter, get some special treatment?

You could of course argue that the average christian can't be compared to these people because they're inherently evil but their actions don't matter here, we're talking about the validity of their beliefs and how they're perceived by others and more so your good self.
Did Christ not really exist, and did He not invent/start something which rightly carries His name?

I'm actually pretty certain Christ did exist and that he did start something which carries his name. This does not mean he is the son of god. How can you be a man and a god? If you attend mass, do you really believe wine is magically transformed into blood, because you can bet the farm if you tasted it it would taste like wine.

If I told you there was a tiny teapot orbiting our planet that is too small to ever be detected by any telescope we have now or will ever posess how much credit would you give me? I believe in god like I believe in unicorns and the tooth fairy. I'm not out to offend anyone but I don't see how my views are any less valid than the likes of original sin.

Also, there are many gods you don't believe in, Thor, Ra, Aries, Lugh etc - I just go one god further.

    Epicurus put it like this:

“Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?”

Can you answer any of these questions?

Judge him on what? What others suspect?
What about Adolf? By your logic it doesn't matter that we believe their actions and belief are morally and factually wrong because it's what they believe.

Factually? I'm not sure what you mean by this. But it is a fact, I suppose, that Aryans think they're superior to non-Aryans. Are they? Well, we have a penchant for looking down on other cultures. We (Westerners) are civilised, but they are savages, backwards and so on, because they do not subscribe to our set of values. Not really a whole lot of difference from the Nazis, if you ask me. They feel they are superior to others for a set of reasons and westerners feel they are superior to, say, Africans for another set of reasons.

In the same way, you feel superior to Christians because they don't share your set of beliefs:

I'll allow Epicurus to answer his own dilemma:

Gods exist, but take no thought for this cosmos or any other.

what i want to know is, where are all the young nuns???

In the strip clubs, of course. All nuns are retired strippers. It's why they became nuns in the first place, to repent.

A better question might have been: Where are the blonde nuns?

Since only women dye their hair, there's more chance of finding blonde nuns. :p

Screw the priests, where have all the cowboys gone? Someone should write a song about that...
