I only ever play 6 handed. Probably cos I feel better able to keep track of the other 5 rather than 8 players. Not sure though, maybe just started there and stayed. :o

However, all you cash players out there, what do feel are the deciding factors in your decision to play either.

    only play 6handed also

can play with a wider range 6handed, although i suppose full ring would be better for a standard multi tabling tag

Fish like 6 max.... I like fish :)

I think if you have an edge your better able to exploit that edge in 6max. A lot of my winnings are from picking up unwanted pots.... there are very few of these in full ring... Whatever suits your game I suppose... I like to play a bit and am currenty 27/15 and 6max suits my game. Full ring suits a real tag.

6 max, as above posts state you have a wider range of cards to play pre flop and you tend to pick up unwanted pots easily enough where as full ring someone will always pop the flop

There are different elements involved and different disciplines required for each.
In also depends on your own style of play.
In 6 max there should be less limping, raised pots are generally played HU,you should be opening up your game a bit more due to the faster blind rotation and should know how to do this well.
You should know how to play good aggressive poker and IMO in leans towards more LAGY style of play.
In full ring you should know how to play multi-way raised/unraised pots as most of the time you will be playing in multiway pots. Patience is very important in full ring games as open limping with junk like KJ /KQ can really hurt you more so in full ring than in 6 max.
I think its good to play both simply because you will get to experience different dynamics and work on different parts of your game.

You can win without the nuts in 6 max.

i love 6 max but i think i play to many hands 45%, still make 10/100 tough..

But lately i am loving the 8 player games on ipoker, it seems a happy medium

6 max is great becuase it removes the first threee positions in FR where a raise from those positions you have to give a lot of credit to due to the tightness of their perceived range.

Just a question since its to do with this topic.

->Do yee play 6 man and 9 man sit and go's at the same time as eachother?
->Also do most of yee play strictly 6 handed or strictly 9 handed?
->Which do yee find more profitable?

9-player tables only work if you have very strict disciplines about what hands you play and how you play them. I found that it was way easier to multitable 9-players tables on autopilot and still be profitable. Still pretty boring tho.

In my experience FR is less profitable than 6-max.

It's far easier to become a semi-good FR game. This means that even at small stakes you'll get tables near full with nitty regulars because they've found a game where their limited skill of knowing to play tight pre-flop wins them something. I played FR all last summer and really didn't get very far. Switching to 6-max has since worked out much better.

The shorthanded nature of 6-max gives the skilled 6-max player a bigger edge. It's a tougher game, a game where standard donk moves, like limping instead of raising, are more incorrect to make than at FR.

Unlike at FR, in 6-max a good player will be harder to read. What are you raising UTG at FR? That's going to be a tight range. At 6-max, even against observant opponents, your hands will be more disguised. Your constant blind steals from CO and button will get you paid off at 6-max. Blind stealing is something you'll get to do much less often in the 8- or 9-handed game. When you raise after three limpers in that game, those at the table who know your style will be able to notice your premium hand right away.

I play both usually at the same time and don't really adjust either way, it's the same game.
