I had an interview with a pharmaceutical company called Helsinn Birex in Dublin about 5-6 weeks ago, I travelled all the way up from cork to go to it.

When I arrived at the interview one of the guys I was scheduled to meet couldnt make it, it was the HR guy, he had to go to some meeting so it was just me and the supervisor.

The interview was fairly straight forward, it was for a production operator role but I didnt get the job as its been 5-6 weeks.

They didnt even have the curtesy to send me a letter that I was unsuccessful, very unprofessional

Did you call them at all? Some companies take a long time to decide positions

Your best bet would be to give them a call. Did they give you any indication of how long it would take them to make a decision? My general thought is to leave it about 2 weeks before hassling a company, but in the past I have called the following day and gotten through the second round by the end of the week with an offer the following Monday - this company normally take ages, but they were very helpful. Of course it depends on the situation, but being proactive and contacting them does no harm because it shows your interest.

Some of the bigger companies take ages. In one place it took them so long I had forgotten I applied, it had been almost a year when the called me. I couldn't remember anything about the advert or the job when I did the interview. :D
