Looking over the apple site and while alot of the features of .mac are great the storage is a laugh when compared to the likes of GMail (when it comes to storage for e-mail) and 1GB is piss poor for file storage.

Anyone think they'll improve the offering anytime soon....yes I know you can upgrade storage but its overpriced

    I have a .mac account.
I really only use it to sync my contacts and calendar between my two macs at home, my mac in work and my Blackberry.
I'm going to start to use the 1Gb storage space as a backup location.
I don't need another webpage etc.
    Grand for £6 a month.
I don't really see it as paying for the 1Gb, rather, for the service of being able to sync everything at the touch of a button.

yeah but syncing isn't a massive thing, there's a good few apps out their that will allow syncing of the likes of sunbird, firefox etc so that they can be used in other locations

It's painfully outdated and overpriced. I'd expect it to come free, or for it receive a significant overhaul in terms of features.

Lets hope they announce changes to it when they bring out iLife07, space and price being two of the big changes.

changing your hosts file doesn't mean it will have the same address from a remote computer. All you are doing with that is making the hosts file use that address for a particular IP on your computer, it won't affect anyone elses.

Apple should have kept it free like it was the beginning to all mac users, but unfortunately everyone and their cousin started setting up an account to store warez so Apple had to start charging for it. I wouldn't mind paying if it was reasonably priced, but 80 euro is ridiculous.

I don't see how this could be illegal, its a very clever idea and not a bad plan

It's not necessarily bad value, it depends on how much use you get out of it.
