Need Help. A friend of mine has just moved into new house. The house has a dish which was pointed to 13Deg. Hotbird. I moved the dish and have been able to get 16Deg and 19Deg, but no 28.2deg east. When changing the Dish direction i have just rotated the dish,(not changing the angle of the dish) Im using a SLX Sat Finder. House Location: Ballinasloe. How do i get 28.2 East.

The elevation of the dish will need to be a few degrees lower to receive 28.2E

Thanks BYTE. When you say a few are we talking 2-3 degs lower or more?

Hmm, I don't know the exact elevation.

Basically as you move East, the dish elevation lowers (higher moving West).

So, swinging from Hotbird to Astra 1 19E, the elevation needs to lower a bit, lowers more for 28E.

Actually, Watty has set up a good guide on the ICDGopedia...

Byte! Thank you for that link.
    Nice one Watty!

When I setup a Fortec Star 90cm dish in Co. Limerick over Christmas I must have had a lot of people thinking 'What is he on about'.

    http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=47163&C=Maplin&U=SearchTop&T=FORTEC%20STAR&doy=26m3

I was using bad terminology. The dish is offset by 24.6 degrees. I thought it meant the LNB offset by 24.6 degrees. What I actually did was set the skew angle of the LNB by turning clockwise to get Setanta and a few more channels. Probably a pure fluke that I turned the LNB 24 degrees to receive these channels and give the best signal strength / quality.

    You learn something everyday :D

Sorry if this is off topic.

I put up one of those Fortec Star 90cm dishes about a month ago.
Its working grand, but every time there is a strong wind hitting it, the dish itself seems to resonate, i.e. the sheet metal of the dish vibrates.
This doesn't seem to effect the signal strength or quality.

The dish isn't moving on the tripod mount and the mount is very securely attached to the wall.

So I was just wondering if this is normal for this particular type and size of dish, or it is experiencing some kind of weird wind tunnel/resonance effect.

Again sorry if this is off topic.

BTW the expandable bolts that came with the tripod mount have to be the biggest joke I've seen in some time. To the best of my memory they took a 12 mm hole and were 2-3 cm long. Hardly useful that for hanging a picture not to mind a 90 cm dish. Ended up using two m8 and two m10 expandable bolts (what was lying around at the time).

BTW Most of that Guide was by Zaphod

My 1.1M triax on motor shakes something scary in strong winds.

You can damp resonance by using contact adhesive or bitumen sealant to stick roofing felt or similar strips on back of dish.
