Right, I've about €1,200 to spend on a new build. I'll need all components (OS, monitor, kb, mouse etc) I've this list in komplett, just wondering what peoples opinion is on it? Anything to add or change? I'm particularly clueless at selecting RAM so help on that wpould be appreciated.

    Cheers.

Are you going to O/C the rig and what type of cooling solution are you going to use. Why that case *shudder* but thats your choice and does it have a PSU the fookin price of it:eek:. Why 2 matched 512 sticks, 1 stick of 1GB would be better and leave room for future upgrades. Good look with the build but I would review some of the choices made. :o

P.s. you have gone over your *budget* price.

I just like the look of the shuttles, and space is somewhat of an issue. I don't plan on overclocking. Not big into gaming but do play some newish titles. Like I said, I'm hopeless at choosing RAM, and most other components, which is why I posted on here.

Right.. This may be good or bad I duno it seems ok to me for what you want? What exactly do you want? Play videos? Internet ETC some gaming?

Heres what ive come up with..

    Case
    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=326919&s=sc

    (You might not like it)

    PSU
    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=314763&s=sc

    (might be overkill)

    Motherboard
    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=322044&s=sc

(only mobo for that processor that looked anygood)

    Ram
    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=312372&s=sc

(2 gigs if you want vista)

    Graphics card
    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=318805&s=sc

    (Im pretty sure its better)

    DVD Drive/burner
    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=325546&s=sc

    Hard drive
    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=331024&s=sc

    (same)

    OS
    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=330707&s=sc

(you dont need ultimate tbh and especially not 64bit)

    Keyboard
    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=310670&s=sc

    (I have this its great!)

    Mouse
    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=325961&s=sc

    (Plain mouse)

Wireless you will have to charge it and stuf.. just not worth it I dont think

    Monitor
    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=327183&s=sc

(Same size cheaper your not going notice difference)

    Three things:

*A 200W PSU is not sufficient for your needs

*Buy more RAM for Vista - 2 gigs total

*Wireless keyboard/ mouse is a pain in the arse - ditch it.

It'll be used to internet, dvds, some games. Intel or AMD? Is there much difference?

papu, it's not letting me view the list on komplett.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,323 ✭✭✭bennyx_o

Right, what about this config? It's a little higher than what I wanted to spend, but I think it'd be worth it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,728 ✭✭✭dazftw

Thats what I wanted to hear. I'll hopefully be ordering in the next week or so. Is the stock intel cooler ok for everyday use? Is it noisy?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 37 d_advocatus

The C2D E6300 is cheaper and you'll easily be able to overclock it to the same speed as the E6400 with stock cooler. The only reason to to for the E6400 is if you're going to be overclocking to the maximum possible because you'll have a multiplier of 8 instead of 7.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,323 ✭✭✭bennyx_o

I don't particularly want to overclock as I said above. mainly because I havn't a clue how to. I'll take it into consideration though as it's quite a bit cheaper.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 37 d_advocatus

Just set your FSB speed in the BIOS to 304 and that's it. The same speed as the E6400. Your RAM is capable of running at 333MHz without being overclocked so you won't be overclocking it. In fact, if you run at 1:1 then your RAM will be underclocked!

Heh, cheers. Saves me a few bob.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 37 d_advocatus

No bother. My E6300 beats the 2.93GHz Core 2 Extreme in some benchmarks!

    €180 CPU vs €950 CPU:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,323 ✭✭✭bennyx_o

I don't think I'll be taking it that far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,245 ✭✭✭✭Fanny Cradock

I'd suggest that the 7600GT would be a weakness of that system. It's a great card - I'm very pleased with mine - but you should really think about spending a little extra on something that is more in line with your system. An x1950pro or 7900gs would do nicely, better still the 8800 series, but that is pushing your budget way up. Alternatively, you could buy a card for about €80 to tide you over until the next release of cheaper DX10 cards - not sure of the financial sense of this, though.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 37 d_advocatus

I bought the X1950PRO to do me until the R600 comes out. I had to get something PCI-E when I bought my new board, couldn't keep using my AGP 9800PRO.

The X1950PRO is a great card for the price, better than the 7900GS.

hey yeah the system looks good only a few susgestions..

1- cheaper mobo this one is really good http://komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=323531

    2- buy an e4300 http://komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=330167

    and a nice cooler
    http://komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=320978

and overclock it to abt 2.8 or 3. you say you dont know how but it really is easy with this mobo and processor, itl keep you within budget and youll seriously have no trouble overclockin it theres tutorials on boards and all over the web :D

imo if ya can front it go for this moniter http://komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=324783

    its lovely :D

Might get a slightly better card, but I don't want to spend a whole lot because I'm not the biggest gamer.

Seems to have alot of features, but the two reviews on it state problems.

The Core 2 Duo's overclock AMAZINGLY well on a good motherboard, and the Abit AB9 Pro is definitely a good motherboard.

2 friends got one , and im getting one :D

They seemed strage when reading it. I'll have a read of the reviews when I get home.

    its another option for sure

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,323 ✭✭✭bennyx_o

It's something I've considered and still am, but nothing beats building your own PC and turning it on for the first time.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 37 d_advocatus

See the other thread in this forum where somebody bought a Dell and the gfx card he bought doesn't fit! Dell's are useless for upgrading.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,323 ✭✭✭bennyx_o

Yea, I read that. I've pretty much decided on the spec I'll be getting, I'm just looking for a case to get. Thinking of the Lian-Li PC-V300, but I read some graphics cards are too long to fit. Any recomendations on where to get cases? Not really looking to spend a whole lot (say €50-€80)
