has anybody got one yet?? i want to know cos im thinking of getting one. the reason i want it is so i can hook my external hard drive up to it to make it a wireless network drive. will the 802.11n connection be fast enough to stream videos from the drive over the network??

i have a macbook core2duo so all i need to do is get it enabled for 802.11n and im ready to go. but if 802.11n isnt fast enought to stream video then this is pretty useless for me.

i know usb2.0 is 480ish mbps and 802.11n is supposedly 600mbps so in theory it should be perfect but im just wondering if anybody has any first hand experience with this particaular application of it.

    cheers
    moe

802.11n is more than fast enough to stream HD video.

I got it, but only have the Macbook Pro Core Duo, so no 802.11n for me (yet)

Even over 802.11g, streaming from my hard drive is fine. Depends on what the source is. Tried streaming an HD MKV (7.7Gb in size) the other day, and just chopped about for a while before dying. Normal xvid or divx encoded AVIs run fine for me, no latency issues at all..

PS: If you have an X360 that you want to put on to the base station, you have to use the 802.11b/g compatible mode, the 802.11n setting (even though its backwards compatible) doesnt talk nicely to my X360.

Let me know how 802.11n runs for you..

I record the majority of programmes off TV on my iMac; later, at the day's end, I toddle off to bed with my MacBook, access the iMac on the network, double click on the file and watch the recording in the back bedroom, through several walls, on my wifi net using a NetGear 802g router. Utterly flawless and. in the case of the Corrie Omnibus* at the end of the week, sheer bliss.

(*parts of this story are not necessarily true, but the streaming is)
