Apart from stating the obvious, which is TW should win the masters what are your thoughts on my other fancies, I devote a lot of time to golf betting/research every week and have had considerable success,
    VJ at 20/1 each way
Stephen Ames @150 each way ( Ladbrokes, best price)
    Stewart Cink @ 100/1
    KJ Choi @ 150/1
I backed Tiger back in December at 9/4, all my mates said it was a crazy price,he's now as low as 11/10, madness

Sergio has been playing well lately and reflected in last weeks finish in tied 3rd.... you can always get him at ridicilously good valued prices, and he has it in the bag to win

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,683 ✭✭✭heavyballs

agrre, he drives the ball well, likes to draw the ball also which is a big plus in augusta, also beleive it or not he was top of the putting stats for this weeks tourney

Vijay at 20/1 has to be a value bet.

Luke Donald worth a shot and Harrington is due a win.

    S

I think I'll back O'Hern and Harrington for top ten finishes...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,798 ✭✭✭Mister Sifter

VJ does look good at that price. He's never far away.

Sergio would be a good bet, as perhaps would harrington.

I always have a few pound on Monty too. Just in case.

Go back to finding lake balls - you'll make more money than backing Monty in Majors!

With Tiger at such a short price I think your better off looking for an each way payout.. Charles Howell had a good battling win recently & he's from the area so I've put some dollars on him at 40-1. I like Ogilvy too also at 40-1, I really think he could be a consistent top-3 in the world player.. Top European I'm backing Stenson.. Thats my tuppence worth

haha... well, i had him each way in the open 2 years ago and the US open last year so i've recouped my losses so far. It's more out of fun and the fact he's my favourite player that i bet on him rather than whether he'll win. 2 quid at 50-1 ain't much of a loss either.

    Go on MONTY!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,792 ✭✭✭J.R.HARTLEY

i'll be backing dimarco each way
massively underrated golfer and at 50-1 need i say more

di- marco should be in the mix come sunday, as for Monty he'd have to learn to draw the ball with his driver to even consider being in contention come the final day, the monty fan should keep his 2 euro and invest in the euro saver menu at Mc D's

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,885 ✭✭✭madds

Backed furyk @ 33/1 each way...."he drives it straight, hits accurate irons and putts consistently. One drawback might be his lack of distance from the tee around an ever-lengthening Augusta National but his competitive nature and vast experience more than compensates. He could well add to his record of three top-six finishes since 1996."

Stenson e/w @ 33-1 looks a bit of value to me.

    PaddyPower US Masters Money-Back Special
If your selection finishes ahead of Tiger Woods in the U.S Masters and does not win, they will refund all losing outright bets on that player.

    Their prices are crap though!.....
    PaddyPower Betfair
    Tiger 1.25/1 1.6/1
    Mickelson 7/1 9/1
    Els 12/1 17/1
    Stenson 33/1 36/1
    Furyk 33/1 38/1
    Dimarco 50/1 70/1
    Ogilvy 33/1 42/1
    Harrington 40/1 55/1
    Howell 40/1 50/1
    Olazabal 50/1 90/1
    Choi 80/1 200/1
    Monty 200/1 280/1
    Sink 100/1 230/1
    O'Hearn 150/1 190/1
    Ames 125/1 170/1

You can't compare PP to bet fair as they are two different kind of bookmarkers.

You have to compare PP to Ladbrokes, Boyles etc

I was highlighting the rip off that is traditional bookmakers versus exchanges.

I'll give credit to paddypower for offering such a 'special'(if your selection finishes ahead of Tiger Woods in the US Masters and does not win, they will refund all losing outright win bets on that player).
If Tiger dosen't perform at the masters then paddypower will be hit very hard. But paddypower always factor the prices they offer into these specials.
Looking at the prices of the same players i mentioned in my previous post as compared to the prices offered by Ladbrokes, Paddypower is higher in only two instances(monty/o'hearn), equal in six and worse in five.

    PaddyPower Ladbrokes
    Tiger 1.25/1 1.25/1
    Mickelson 7/1 8/1
    Els 12/1 12/1
    Stenson 33/1 33/1
    Furyk 33/1 33/1
    Dimarco 50/1 66/1
    Ogilvy 33/1 33/1
    Harrington 40/1 40/1
    C Howell 40/1 40/1
    Olazabal 50/1 66/1
    Choi 80/1 125/1
    Monty 200/1 125/1
    Sink 100/1 100/1
    O'Hearn 150/1 125/1
    Ames 125/1 150/1

Cabrera 33/1 with Ladbrokes Top Rest of the World 1/4 ew 1,2,3,4 seems a big price for a player who likes this course and had a very good weekend last tournament.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 369 ✭✭GreenHorn

I've gone for O'Hern ew (150/1) and Harrington to win (with the PP Woods dealy as a small safety net).

  • Subscribers Posts: 4,419 ✭✭✭PhilipMarlowe

Aaron Baddeley 100-1 ew with paddy power...
What no Duval??? My favourite golfer in a bizzare kind of way ;)

ive gone DiMarco and Goosen 80/1 and 35/1 advertised with chronicle. Serious value IMO.

Henrik Stenson - 33/1: Good all round game, natural shot shape (draw) is made for Augusta. Whacks it a fair distance too but thats a given with most players

Geoff Ogilvy - 40/1: Showed his talent in winning the Matchplay and US Open titles last year. Augusta should suit his game.

Chris DiMarco - 70/1: Superb record at Augusta. Gutsy competiter, he gets really fired up for the American majors.

Retief Goosen - 33/1: Same as DiMarco, solid track record at Augusta, great temperment.

Anyway thats who shines out to me as each-way value. In-match betting might be a better bet on Friday/Saturday if you really want to pick a winner.

Woods, Casey and Baddeley pairing for the first two rounds.... fancy the 3 of them not to be too far of the final group on Sunday.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,013 ✭✭✭kincsem

    My bets on Betfair

Player ...................Odds ...Bet .... Give me this :)

    Chris DiMarco .......... 85 ... €42.00 ...€3,528.00
    Jose Maria Olazabal ...110 ... €20.00 ...€2,180.00
    Niclas Fasth ........... 410 ... €25.00 ... €10,225.00
    Robert Karlsson ..... 632.15 ... €20.00 ... €12,623.00
    Kenneth Ferrie ...... 1000 ... €30.00 ... €29,970.00

DiMarco and Olazabal always go well. Fingers crossed.

Wahey its Masters time once more. Tigers a hot hot favourite and it'll be surprising if he's not there or there abouts come Sunday.

Can't see why Mickleson is so short to be honest. Apparently hes got a new driver especially for Augusta to give him more distance but its doubtful whether thats gonna be enough to improve this seasons poor form.

Toms is a bit of a favourite of mine and might seem big at 125/1 but his record around here is awful and I don't think hes made the cut in a good few years. I'll leave him alone this week.

Robert Allenby @66/1: If only old Robbie boy could string 4 good rounds together, the man would be unstoppable. Still at least hes giving himself a chance in these tournaments and along with Howell hes probably been the most consistent player on tour over the past few months. 8 events and 6 top 10 finishes tells its own story.

Retief Goosen @28/1: The goose loves it around here and his record over the past five years reads 2nd 13th 13th 3rd 3rd. Thats impressive by anyones standards.
He's having a decent season so far and only Henrik Stenson has earned more money than him this year.

Paul Casey @40/1: The last time Casey played the masters was in 2005 when he missed the cut. However the previous year he managed a very creditable 6th place. He's playing alongside Tiger tomorrow and I reckon he'll love striding out with the main man and i'm hoping he can be inspired by the Tiger and play his best golf.

Scott Verplank @200/1: My old mate has to be backed at that price especially considering he has a decent record around here(3 top 20's since 2003 including an 8th place 4 years ago). In all truth he hasn't played well this season but I'd never be able to forgive myself if he came into a place and I wasn't on him.

    Verdict:
    25 Points E/W on Goosen @28/1
    12.50 Points E/W on Robert Allenby @66/1
    10 Points E/W on Paul Casey @40/1
    2.50 E/W on Scott Verplank @200/1

    Good Luck to all.

Yes Masters is the highlight of the golfing calender for me too. One interesting selection at a price which hasnt been mentioned is freddie couples ew at 150/1, backed him at the same price last year when he came 3rd, and he was in the top 5 too 2 years ago. Other slections I have done are similar to the rest harrington, goosen, di marco.

Also did big phil ew at 11/2 in the without tiger market in boyles

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 227 ✭✭dfcelt

Has nobody mentioned Mickelson yet
This guy can beat Tiger & the man himself even admitted it in interviews before. If he gets on a birdie streak hes gonna hard to beat. With the PP offer as backup I'll be throwing a few bob on him. I also fancy Stenson e/w. Will throw a small e/w on Harrington out of loyalty  but I also reckon Casey will be thereabouts come the finish

Edit: Sorry Rag, just read ur post

Bad start for Phil Mickelson fans (me included), lets hope he can cut his losses somewhat in the back nine today

    Masters Tips ???

Bit late to be asking but :

If thats you Tiger, dont worry, just play your normal game and let the rest of them play for second place.

If its one of the rest of you, well, try not to have any disasters, dont gamble on the first three days, and see there Mr TW is when you get to Amen corner. If its your lucky day and he's already out of it, then have a go at the 13th and 15th, it usually decides the champion. If El Tigre already has it sewn up then just try to enjoy the back 9 and a little bit of heaven on earth.

most of my each way bets are down, still git tw anti post at 9/4, also backed him last night at the close of play on ppower at 6/4 when everyone else was going 5/4.
Have jj henry to be to amatuer at 8's and backed olly at 16's each way to be top european, i dont think he's done yet.
BTW was i the only one watching the golf last night that knew paddy h was going to dunk it in the drink on the15th, he looked so nervous hitting the shot.

I could be made eat pie of the humble kind come sunday but thats just a tad presumptious to say the least......

Finishing with two bogeys.... he's not that fluent yet and is definitely not worth his miserly 5/4 price.

if you were a bookie what price would you have him? If he wins i'm 2k up , only problem is i don't know who to cover my bet with, i honestly can't see anyone beating him, log on to masters.org and check out the stats for the first round , he's out there on his own ,he'll win just wait and see!

As it so happens I work in a bookies. We had Tiger at 12/1 to lead after the first round and there was a lot of interest in that

Over a four day event, with a field of 90 players 5/4 or 13/8 etc is an absolute joke of a price. Like I said I may be eating humble pie at around
12AM on sunday but Tiger is not invincible.

ur not suggesting there are 90 possible winners are you?
Let's be honest there's about 25 that can win it, so if you were setting the prices in ur shop what price would you give?

And of the 25, 15 have only a very slim chance - about 100/1 I reckon.

8 out of 10 Masters are won by a golfer already ranked in the top 5 in the world - Weir, Mize, Stadler, Zoeller, Aaron and Coody the rare exceptions over the last 40 years.

Of the Majors it just seems to be much more consistent at finding the best golfer.
