Tremelo pedals - thoughts?

    Hi everyone,

I'm looking at getting a tremolo pedal and I'm seeing wildly differing reviews on the web for the various options; from the dirt cheap but fragile (Danelectro Tuna Melt) to bullet proof but flawed old faves (Boss TR-2) to well recommended but hard to find (Voodoo Labs Tremolo and Empress Tremolo).

Has anyone got any of these pedals? - any others (say the Rocktron)? - recommendations?

    Cheers,

    Fergus.

PS - just realised this post should probably have gone in the guitar thread - is it possible to "move" posts?

I have the Boss one, it's grand tbh, it does what I need it to do.

I have the Boss. It does what it's supposed to, and you could kick it round the garden for hours and it would still work. So I'd call it a good buy.

Well if you want good and cheap get the Marshall Vibratrem, the TR-2 has a perceived volume drop, the Marshall doesn't and has vibrato too.. If you have a few sponds to spare i'd go for a Catalinbread Semaphore or a Dr. Scientist Tremolessence.. Vintage & Rare stock them if youre looking for a dealer, theyre about twice the price of anything common though... If youre feeling ambitious, have a look at the BYOC trem, very cheap and apparently very nice but you do have to be handy with a soldering iron... (buildyourownclone.com in case you haven't heard)

Be wary of the Marshall pedals...I've had two and both have given up the ghost. I treat my gear realy well and they were never gigged. The TR2 is a very nice little pedal.

My vibratrem's still going :-) Im probably gonna get a Semaphore eventually but its holding up ok for what i need it to do.. I've owned the TR-2 and sold it on because of the volume drop

Im not too happy with my Marshall bluesbraker so I doubt id get another Marshall pedal. Boss are probably the most trustworthy though. Simple answer, go into a music store or see if your friends have any and play them to see what you like and go for that one.

Supra-trem comes a close second to the old fender amps trems in my experience.

It lacks a little in tone in comparison, but is alot more versatile and built like a tank.

I haven't tried all the units mentioned, but it definately kills the Boss box.

The Marshall one is quite nice sounding, and I haven't come across any reliability issues. I'd prefer it to the Boss. You can't key either one to tempo though, which would put me off, personally.

I have the Marshall trem as well. Haven't used it in yonks. Has vibrato, as mentioned, plus can switch between waveforms. No tap tempo capabilities, though some of Marshall's newer pedals have an input for an expression pedal or non-latching footswitch to allow this, so maybe newer versions of the trem have this facility too? Eats batteries within hours, though, so needs a PSU.

Have used a Marshall GV2 for years, both gigging and rehearsal. Never had any reliability issues with it whatsoever.
