Golf club membership in Cork

Can anyone give me some advice on joining a golf club in or within easy driving distance of Douglas, Cork.
The clubs I've looked into so far would require me to sell my whole family into slavery just to join.
I'm looking for a club with 18 holes and affordable fees.
Before coming to Ireland I was a member of the Worcester Golf and Country Club, an excellent, well established club with fees that were realistic.
When I got here I couldn't believe how expensive club membership in Cork was.
If you know of any "local" clubs looking for members I would appreciate a heads up.

For Affordability you will have to go some distance out from the City.

I don't know what the current fees are but try Bandon (nice trek with 18 holes), Mitchelstown (27 holes, I think), Mallow G.C. or Fermoy.

Youghal could be worth a try but there was some talk of the club being sold and moving.

Kinsale have 27 holes and has just about matured after it's inception, 12/13 years ago.

There is a new course being developed in Cobh, about €4000 to get in, I think.

You could always join Frankfield. The hilliest course in Ireland, where you can only see one green for your approach shot, all others being blind shots.

Kinsale Golf Club are going to open up Ringenane (the 9 hole course) to allow full membership. The joining fee will be only 1250 with a yearly sub of less than 500. You'll become a full member of that club (h'cap, GUI etc), but won't have any rights on the 18 hole course at Farrangalway.

has that been passed yet - I thought there was an EGM soon to discuss it?

What were the fees in Worcester GC. The fees in Cork of some of the courses is still crazy anf far higher than its worth imo. Douglas and Cork GC's both still looking for €15k+ yearly sub afaik, crazy.
