Err but yeah - they announced months and months ago that a HDMI or Component cable would NOT be included.

I know its cheap and annoying, but they havent claimed otherwise. :o

well they were boasting " this is where HD starts" , so the least they could have done is gave a component cable. Most ppl would be expecting to get some sort of hd cable as they wouldnt be reading internet forums etc.

Most stores at least are bundling in a HDMI cable, but yeah I do agree its a pain but when you just spent the kind of money we have on a PS3 - we should be used to being gouged ;):D

Unfortuantlly my TV does not support HDMI, so I was expecting at least HD component out of the box!

So now I have to hunt around for a cable, anyone know where I can get a DVI or D-sub(vga) cable? I would prefer to use either of those rather than HD component as that is the connection I use with my 360.

I have to say this is the least impressed I have been with a console ever, very disappointed with Sony.

Think u can get a hdmi to dvi cable for it, someone else will confirm that. Im only using composite aswell atm but the interface and playstation store are awful. The interface works well on the psp but it looks crap on a big tv. It just looks cheap and just shows you how lazy sony are. And the games wouldnt impress many ppl, i showed it to some of my friends and they said when am i gonna get rid of it.... F1 looks like a ps2 game apart from the car your driving and motorstorm would drive you nuts after 10 mins. It'll be a long while before its worth owning. Tbh i cant wait till its hacked to bits and ppl might give it a nicer look and add better video support etc. The fans dont even power down when you exit back to the home screen ( well i hope im not the only one!), its noisier atm on the home screen than my 360 playing a game!

HDMI to DVI cable for that.

PS3 doesnt officially do VGA, you can buy a component to VGA cable and then with dual female phono connectors join your "Sony component cable" to the "component to VGA cable", however these cables are generally for projectors, most HDTV's will not see the signal they output, but it's worth a try I guess.

Mayto - yep the ps3 is silent, when you first turn it on. If you leave the home screen on for 10-20 minutes doing nothing else the fans do eventually come on. But it's first impresions that count and so the fact that the fans don't kick in at full pelt straight away when you turn your ps3 on makes the machine seem much quieter than it actually is in real use.

The new 360's with the BenQ drive (bought a spare one in feburary when gamestop had a great trade in deal) are just as quiet as the PS3 when gaming. Noisier initially, but in use - the same.

    :)

    no cable
I think no remote for blu-ray is worse, especially when they charge so much for such a cheap product to manufacture

    Its stupid

they make a machine thats HD-movie friendly, but dont give you the right cables or remote

if this is really the future im worried

well microsoft do give you a hd cable with the 360 and thats a hd system to. and in in hd terms less than 20% of irish tellys are hd so why give a cable when so many cant use hence the SD cable for people without a hd telly if they had included both cables it would mean greater cost of console and anyway who said this was a premium package.

The 360 premium pack has HD cables in the box. I don't think the core has them.

The noise of the 360 while gaming never really bothered me. It's the noise when watching a DVD or HD-DVD that bugs me. That is: The two system fans at the back of the console itself.

So, after about half an hour sitting on "dashboard" in the PS3; when the fans kick in, are they much less noisey than the 360 dashboard fans?

    Thanks

not "much" less noisy, just a bit.

A tip about the 360 :- I found for the 360 if you make sure there is no game or dvd in the main drive, whilst you watch a HD-DVD on its drive the machine is fairly quiet. Leave a disc in the console drive and the fans come on louder and the machines becomes noisier. Strange...

Why on earth would someone buy a PS3 when they don't have a HD tv???
Even buying a 360 without a HD tv is silly, though less so as the original XBOX is not really supported anymore. The PS2 still has a load of staying power, loads of good games coming out etc.

Sorry this is off topic :)

i got a hd component cable with my 360 - i also got a media remote.

Who said it was a premium pack.... the fact it isn't the 20gb "core" package for a start.

As someone said above, do NOT buy a ps3 if you dont have a hdtv. Seeing as it looks crap on a normal tv and most of the games out for it are crap atm, its not worth the money. If you hid the console and told someone you were playing a new game on the ps2 they wouldnt think otherwise. Cant wait to see what the price of this "premium" ps3 is with its component cable and remote.......
