Secondhand 20D worthwhile?

I've spotted a secondhand 20D on the Photography Ireland forums and put in an offer for it, on the assumption I could sell my 400D. Would it be a worthwhile exchange, I could really make use of a spot meter and advanced flash compatibility.

Doesn't have a spot meter, that's the 30D. Works very well with my 580EX though. I'd keep the 400D if at all possible.

Okay, no spot meter (the Canon site lied), but it still has flash functions the 400D doesn't that I would find extremely handy.

    Like a smaller 1.5" screen ?

I think that would drive you crazy.

There's no possibility of keeping the 400D as well?

I'll hold off I guess, the lack of spot meter really kills it. :|

I agree with Rymus. If it was the 30D I'd go for it. Since I got the 5D I find that I use spot metering about 75% of the time. I don't know how I lived without it TBH. Flash? I wouldn't worry too much about that unless you use it a lot and even then there are ways and means around the shortcomings. like getting used to manual and varying the output.

Are you all sure it does'nt have spot meter? I am nearly sure my 10D had and the 20 was a later model, I know the 10 was kind of blob meter rather than spot but it was there.

It's got a 'partial' setting which I think is the centre 9% of the metering area.

Last year I got a 2nd hand 20D and its a world away from my 350D. No spot meter but doesnt bother me. Excellent build quality and 5fps is enough. I kept my 350D as a backup and it still get used fairly regularly.

If I was you, I'd go rather for 30D, both 20 and 30D very similar but there are those pleasant differences which we pay for.
Try Canon UK outlet at ebay UK . On bidding, you might get great price on refurb. 30D body. I reckon a second hand body and factory refurbished one are still not the same.
