Is it true that PS3 games are locked to 1 console??

As per title, mate of mine is trying to convince me that the games are locked to the first console they are played on. Seems a bit ridiculous to me as it would make trading games inpossible. Anyone care to settle it for me?

That would mean that all the disks are writable, so no, it's not true.

It was an idea Sony was contemplating introducing, however retailers kicked up a storm over it and Sony decided thankfully to backdown.

Actually it was just a Patent Sony applied for they never even hinted at implementing it.
