....It was bday pressie (30) ssssh!

I got Resistance and Need for Speed. I'm looking forward to maybe getting Oblivion. I don't normally go for that type of game but it does look good. Any ideas on when its out? Any other game recommendations?

Should I better hooking the PS3 up to the aul broadband?

    Cheers :p

    Yes you should connect up.

Oblivion is out at the end of April.

    Motorstorm is sweet.

And yes get the machine connected to BB. You will need to - to do firmaware updates for your PS3. Trying to get discs of sony can take ages otherwise.

    Yeah Motorstorm is class

You can download the firmware from a PC and stick it on a USB stick or CD/DVD even, and use that.

But yeah, you should hook it up to the internet. You're missing a big part of the system without that..online gaming, plus the downloadable content. There's a good deal of free stuff up for download that you should get - the Motorstorm Demo, GT:HD, a Formula One demo etc. etc. Also, stuff like Folding@Home..

Apart from the software updates and playing on line is there any other reason to have it connected?

EDIT: oohh, didn't realise you could get demos!

What kinda filesizes are we talking here?

Playstation Store is a good reason. I've come to love downloadable games quite a lot. And it seems like that will become an increasingly big part of Sony's approach - for example, the wonderful LittleBigPlanet will debut on the Playstation Store in the autumn, several months before it arrives on disc in stores.

Free demos are also nice :)

edit - demos tend to vary in size, I'm just downloading the european F1 demo and Gran Turismo:HD 2.0 at the moment, and they're about 600-700MB. Queue them up with background downloading and it's no biggie.

About 800 - 900 MB per demo and about 250 MB per HD Trailer

I had a quick look, and these are the sizes of the demos on the Irish store:

Gran Turismo: HD Concept - 690MB
    Motorstorm - 457MB
    Resistance - 860MB
    Formula 1: CE - 723MB
    Genji - 590MB
    Ridge Racer 7 - 423MB
    Blast Factor - 112MB
    Lemmings - 229MB

    Tekken 5: DR (costs €10) is 572MB.

One other handy thing - you can very easily create US and Japanese accounts to get access to the US and Japanese stores. They have some free content and demos you can't get right now on the European stores (like the Def Jam Icon, NBA07 & Hot Shots Golf 5 demos). So it's worth creating two other 'dummy' users on your PS3 and registering them for the US and Japanese Playstation Network.

Another thing that's good to know that might be useful is that you can share paid-for games with up to 5 other PS3s - if you're willing to share your account login details with other people. Basically, if a person buys a game on the PS Store, they can log in to someone else's PS3 and "activate" that PS3, which basically allows it to download all the content that person has bought for free. It's not a hack or a trick, it's something Sony is doing to encourage people to get into downloadable content. So you could get together with some mates who have a PS3 and share an account, each of you able to download stuff with a single purchase. You don't have to be all logged in to that shared account to play the games either, any account on your PS3 will have access to it.

Thats quite small actually, I was expecting them to be larger than pc demos.

Nope its the full game - been getting good reviews too. I'm not normally a Tekken fan but it's hard to say no at that price!

Especially since we get it cheaper than anywhere else. Its £7.99 UK, and $19.99 USA

    We pay €9.99 = £6.70 = $13.50

i have everything available for download so far. getting the most use out of gripshift i reckon, after completing resistence on monday (i played it a LOT!). had a few online games with resistence, but keep getting fragged a lot too. :)

gripshift well worth the €7.99 (i think), go to the website and have a look at the video if you're at all interested in a very fun puzzly type racing game. heaps of levels too. http://www.gripshiftgame.com/

just about to see if i can find a video or site for 'fl0w' which was just released today in the playstation store. incidentally, there was a small update for resistence today too when i went online.

I'll second that, had planned to pick it up on PSP for ages but never got round to it, finally played it there on PS3 during the week and its a great little game. Think monkeyball with a car(sort of) - the handling isn't exactly brilliant but that's not the focus of the game, it's good level design and interesting challenges and it works well.

I do recommend Oblivion btw. It looks great. I have it for the PC and 360. The PS3 version looks a bit better than the 360 and on par with a top end PC.

With the PS3 you also get the expansion pack, which adds a minimum of 30hrs onto the 100+hrs of the origonal game.

Take a look at www.gamespot.com they gave it 9.5/10 the highest score they have ever given a PS3 game.
