Any one who considers credit options as a no brainer lacks a brain.

Not to stirr up **** but these things are setup in a way that if you dont comply with every last condition you have the bear the full brunt of interest and something that might cost €600 may cost double that in interest.

Yeah these things are bad news. The conditions are confusing and unless you follow them all, then you'll get stung for 29% APR, which is ridiculous.

Paid for something on credit before a few years ago and never had I so much hassle but was my own fault. In conclusion, read the T&Cs VERY carefully before you sign anything and don't get all excited because it seems like a great deal to get your PS3.:)

on the face of it is, i can easily afford 600 odd but it makes a lot more sense to avail of free credit if available. time value of money and all that ;)

According to flyer with Indo today, it comes to a grand total of 980 odd if you go down the free credit route and end up on the 26%+ apr because of missed payment.

indeed, but thats if you miss the payment, its only 280 quid, unless they go out of there way to make you miss it

Interest free credit always has a catch ... Anyone that loans you money is out to make money ... You think its out of the goodness of their hearts :)

Of course it is if you manage it well

Interest free options are generally geared toward lower income families who would find it harder to manage there money than some one on a higher income.

Thats why some many of deals turn into interest deals

I'd say it's more of a convenience than a bargain. Anyway, I'm sure this will be an attractive option for many

I'd think of it more as a convenience for the shop(s) offering it...it no doubt softens the psychological blow of shelling out 640 notes for a console and convinces people who are considering buying it to take the plunge since it's spread out.

As an aside; I was all over Newry and Dundalk yesterday looking at TVs and some other stuff and every single place I went into had PS3s available for slae on the spot...shops are going to have to drum up business for this console at least until the s/w availablity starts plumping out. I'll not be taking the plunge any time soon...

If you print out the price from PowerCity and bring it into Harvey Normans they will match the price. I did it when buying a surround sound system got €75 off.

Then you can get the interest free credit as well. Happy days.

As wonderful as the Power City site is, you need to click the MP3s and iPods image, then select consoles from the navigation on the left. Then, like eolhc said, click the quote button.

well i just got one from harvey :)

the deal is they set you up on a 20 p/m plan (12 or 18) and you have to make sure you its all paid by the 12mth or you go onto another 30 mths at 20.

so all im going to do is once the first installement is taken, divide the 600 odd euro i owe by 11 and change the direct debit to that. all paid in 12 mths interest free. Nice.

The credit option is fine if you watch what you are doing. I bought a big telly and later a washing machine from dixons and currys and the finance was with HFC The Household Bank. Go for the nine month credit only. Pay 20 quid a month for 8 months, then the balance by cheque by swiftpost (this stops anyone saying they didnt get it on time) and bobs your uncle, interest free credit. The bank sends you a letter a couple of weeks before the payment date to give you the option to clear it, which you do. If you dont, it goes on for a couple of years and you pay massive interest. I am very happy to know if something packs up in my house, I can go to the stores with a driving licence and household bill and come home with a replacement appliance and I dont need to pay for it right there and then.

Is that an online price only from Power City, or can you walk in and buy one at that price?

Here's the actual bundle deals Harvey Norman are doing @ launch for the PS3:

    PS3Bundle1_Small.jpg PS3Bundle2_Small.jpg

    CLICK POSTER FOR LARGER VERSION

€748 bundle: PS3 + Resistance Fall of Man + F1 Championship Edition + Extra SIXAXIS bluetooth controller.
€788 bundle: PS3 + Resistance Fall of Man + Motor Storm + Ridge Racer 7 + Extra SIXAXIS bluetooth controller + blu-ray remote control.

Yes, I work there. Yes, I put the posters together for them.

The small text is the usual terms and conditions about finance, and for the eircom deal (your phone line must pre-qualify and it must be a new connection to broadband. The €100 off eircom deal is only available on the €788 package.)

Surely €788 isn't bad for a PS3 with 3 games, an extra bluetooth controller and a blu-ray remote control?

once you pay the finance off within the agreed time lets say 12 months there is no intrest, the lump sum can be paid off at any time as well,

you can also up your payments to any amount to get rid of the lump sum, or to pay it off quicker,

so all I have to do is go to the Harveys Norman, get a console, pay first payment within a month, divide the rest (just in case) by 10, pay it every month for that 10 months, and there's gonna be interest free?

do they still offer that €788 PS3 with 2 controllers, 3 games and the BR-Remote?

No. They can't match the online price for some reason.
