Which wood floor for our new kitchen?

Its to be cream gloss cupboards with a black granite worktop and probably off-white walls. We're keen on maple or beech for the adjacent sunroom but wondering whether something richer (like cherry) would be better for the kitchen. Any thoughts would be welcome (but we're definite about the wood bit).

I agree. Mate of mine has exactly the kitchen you describe with walnut floor. Loks great. The light and dark contrast very nicely.
