It started when i downloaded WMP version 11. When i did this Media player wont play video clips from the internet but it will play movies and clips i have on my pc.

I looked into it and it seemed to suggest version 10 was best for windows xp which is what my system is. So i uninstalled version 11 or 'rolled back' to get back on version 10 and restarted but still no joy. In fact WMP version 10 or any version doesnt even appear to be in the 'Add or Remove Programs' but as i say i can launch it and play stored files in it.

Any ideas on whats going wrong here and how i can get it working properly again to play video clips from the internet?.

My browser is firefox2 which i have recently upgraded to and wonder could this be the problem?.

really not sure what's wrong... i use WMP11 and Firefox so i really doubt it's a problem with either of them. You could always try re-install them both. Do you get any error messages when you try play video clips from the net, or does just nothing happen?

    C00D1197: Cannot play the file
Windows Media Player cannot play the file. You might encounter this error message for one of the following reasons:

Your computer is not connected to the local area network (LAN) or to the Internet.

Some network protocols in the Player are not enabled. Enable all network protocols, and then try again.

The proxy server settings for the Player are not configured properly. Verify that your proxy settings are correct, and then try again.
    To enable all network protocols
On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Network tab.
In the Streaming protocols area, select all the protocol check boxes.
To verify your proxy server settings
On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Network tab.
Verify your settings in the Streaming proxy settings area.
    Note

If you do not know what your proxy server settings should be, on the Network tab, select a protocol, click Configure, and then select Autodetect proxy settings or Use proxy settings of the Web browser (available for HTTP protocol only).

When in “Add or Remove Programs” look for a button
With “add and remove windows components”

Depending on the version of MP11 you have installed, you may need to check the box for "Show updates" when you open the Add/Remove programs window in order to see the installation, it's the little check mark box at the top of the Add/Remove page.
