How can i locate the desktop that was there originally.... is it possible as i had lots of stuff there....

I think it is in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Desktop.

Perhaps try c:/Documents & Settings/click various users there/Desktop? When you create a new profile (at least on XP) the desktop is blank-ish on the new profile, so perhaps that's just it. It's probably still there just not on your desktop :)

    /edit Damn Ruu and his uber-fastness... :p
