Book Shelf - Wood?

The wife wants me to built her an open book shelf with no doors. I don't like the open idea as I have a lot of books, magazines and manuals and it might look messy but she insists that it won't so have to believe her ;) I have a few ideas of the design she wants but no idea where to buy the wood or what type of wood to…

I have a few ideas of the design she wants but no idea where to buy the wood or what type of wood to use. B&Q is too expensive!

Any ideas or suggestions?
