Im waiting until I get paid next friday to get the ps3. Do you think there will be any left in the shops?
And, ppl who got their ps3 in XtraVision, did you get a free bluRay rental? Do they have much of a selection? What sort of offers do you get in the 150euro vouchers?

    Cheers

Yep - it's looking like there's tons of supply.

Our Smyths got 40 PS3's and have sold 5

Can I ask _roughly_ what part of the country/dublin it's in?

Looks like there'll be plenty available in France.

I think its fair to say that the EU/AUS launch has been a bit of disaster so far.

Well in all fairness Sony had a hell of alot of consoles availible to buy so its not as bad as it looks because they had a huge stockpile of them for the EU launch when compared to MS and Ninity.

I can't really agree with you there christophicus, reading the article above it sounds bleak, only selling 300 out of 1000 consoles in Paris is disastrous, considering the 360 and Wii both sold out in their first release. I guess Sony just got everything wrong this time, particularly the release date, it really needed to be before Christmas, if it had of been 5 months ago i bet they would have been sold out.

What were the numbers for first day sales with Wii and 360?

Sony have consoles available to buy, because nobody wants to buy them. ;)

When you think about it and compare it to the Wii it really is bad. I've been unfortunate enough to visit 2 gamestores when a new stock of Wii's have been delivered. It's madness with every second person buying a Wii. This was in late February so the excuse of a bad launch date is rubbish. The Wii is constantly sold out and is closing on 6 million sales while the PS3 sits on the shelves.

The proplem with the PS3 is that it needed to be released during the Christmas season. The price is stupidly high and outprices itself from casual gamers that would only buy it as an impulse buy.

Hmm, right. I'll get my coat.

That was pretty much the same for the PS2 launch.

But the PS2 made the Christmas deadline. As I recall the PS2 completely sold out on launch (although it's true it had much lower stock). When the second batch arrived after christmas there was little demand and loads were available. I'm sure it will start selling well come Christmas but it won't be up against a dying dreamcast. It will be up against an xbox with Halo 3 and an already popular Wii with a mario game that according to reports will be superb.

It's going to get interesting. If I were to put money on it I predict the PS3 will be ahead of the xbox this time next year but I doubt it will beat the Wii.

That was pretty much the same for the PS2 launch.

But this time, it's been compared to the X-Box360 in terms of price and value for money. I think most casual gamers just want a game console. They resent being forced fed a Blue-Ray player (so Sony can win the HD war).

Even though I though MS were mad to be selling the XB360 without built-in HD-DVD, I was wrong.

My borther (a lazy, useless, fat teacher), constantly uses the kids in his school for spot polls. He says that almost none of the kids are getting PS3's because they are "too expensive". A few more hope to get one at Christmas.

BTW: I'm really thinking of buying a PS3 because of BD playback alone. But in my heart, I know I'm mad. I should wait until the price of the PS3 falls (which it surely will now) and to see if there will be any outcome of the HD war.

The only thing that pleases me about this failed launch, is that finally, it seems the Europeans are saying to a Jap/US company: We are fed up of being ripped off!

I dont think it was because the supply was high I think it is because the demand isnt high enough.

The Xbox has about 10% (or less) of the Irish market, get back to me when that changes.

Which xbox are you talking about ? I know lots of people who own 360s but not a single person even remotely interested in buying a ps3 . People dont want the ps3 because they've been there before , so what they're thinking is it looks slightly better but where is the extra dimension? Thats where the wii steps in . Btw nintendo are the only company that make profits from consoles so I guess they win no matter what.

A salesperson from Gamestop in Naas told me that they still have 20 PS3's in stock. Only 4 people actually pre-ordered. So I would say that you will be able to get 1 in a weeks time.
BTW he also said that they no Wii's at all and only 2 360's. I bet they will still have 20 PS3's this time next week(unless you win the lotto on Saturday and will be able to afford 1)

So did anyone actually get a ps3 from Xtravision?!
