Does anyone remember the old airplanes you could buy in newsagents for about 15p or 20p. They were made from styrofoam type stuff?
You would have to put them together yourself !

Also anyone remember like soldier men with a parachute?
You could run with them and throw them in the air and they would float back down like a real soldier jumping from a plane or something !

Oh yes, now you're talking my language :D I loved those planes. The little plastic bit on the nose where the propellor attached was vital for a proper flight, throwing them in the air to do loop-the-loops :)

I also loved (and still do :o ) those plastic armies you could buy in big bags from Hector Greys in Dublin. They're still around, my nephew ahs a load of them!

/dammit, what were those planes called again?

I only wish I could still buy these now!! A few years ago we were on the roof of a building on the quays and decided to throw one of to see how far it would go!! It went for ages, the laugh we had trying to keep track of it!!

I used to get those airplanes every once in a while alright. The excitement when the plane didn't take a nosedive. :)
Those parachute men come in Kinder Eggs and similar items nowadays I think, great fun too.

ohohoho yes. Before I clicked on this thread, those planes were the first thing that sprung to my mind. I remember the lovely colourful paper packet it came in. I think it had pictures of other planes on it, there were loads to collect. I used to buy one with my weekly beano, and a clear red chupa chup with a ball of chewingum inside it. Mmm.

Beano (often with Double Dip or similar sweety attached to it, yum) and Desperate Dan comic every week too. :)

remember the springy football game were ya pull back the palyers and it flicks the lead ball into the goal (better than the fancy subetto)

others were the cowboy suits and cap guns.

Those planes were cool alright! You needed the front propeller to keep the balance correct! I used to love bending the wings to change the flight of the planes!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,705 ✭✭✭ciaran76

Anyone remember there was also a throwing device similar to a boomarang but it had 3 wings ?

You could throw it and it came back if you threw it correctly.

Yep, bloody hard to do right though, many a day at my local park trying to perfect throwing both those and boomerangs and then loosing them in bushes and stuff :(

Anyone remember the rocket-shaped bangers that you loaded with caps and threw in the air? Got sick of having to buy them when they wore out so ended up making them from a nut and two bolts- the bigger the nut, the more caps you could load in- the bigger the bang!

    Good days- Xbox......................meh:p

i remember those styrofoam planes - they were cool....and the parachute men. The clear sheet was wrapped around the little parachute man with an elastic band around it. You'd get them in Lucky Bags.
I remember those rocket things too that you put caps into, they were great fun!
I remember getting those red transparent fish that would flip in the palm of your hand too (well they were supposed to anyway!).They were fortune telling fish or something?

Ah yes, I had the Black Barracuda and the main grey mothership with all the smaller ships inside. Sold the lot at a garage sale years ago. Stupid kid!

If you still have some Starcom left you will be happy to know it's now extremely collectible. Annoyingly enough, I some of the rarer ones at at said garage sale..gr. Still have a box of it left though.
Saw a Shadow Upriser sell on ebay a week or so ago for 213 stearling.

I got the small one first (red viper) we didn't really know what they were from, but a few years later my brothers got red venom and black barracuda and I got the mountain base (which had a few guns/missile turrets and a bunch of heli-pads that would jump if you hit a target under them).

Years later we picked up a Manta force ship from a car boot sale just for memory sake
