I was under the impression that I had to stay in my job, as I was applying for a mortgage, but I just rang the mortgage people and they say as long as I am in continuous employment, it doesn't matter where, and they also said I need to get an increase in salary if I am to be approved for the max amount.
So it doesn't look like I'll be getting the 'hoped for' raise in my current place of employment, which means I gotta look elsewhere.

But here's the thing, I haven't got a clue what I want to do.... well, actually, that's a lie, I am really interested in all things media, PR, marketing and event management related, but I don't know if I am experienced enough to walk into such a position on the salary that I am hoping for.

A lot of my experience is based in admin/office type work, and most of my media etc experience has been obtained through 'on the side' jobs, and through college. (Although I did carry out the duties of marketing exec for a few months before the dept was closed down by the owner).

Anyhow, as you can probably tell from my ramblings, I am totally confused as to what move to make next. I know I could get the money I want in an admin/PA type job, but unless its within the media industry I just don't want to go there again.
I need to increase my salary so can't afford to work for less, even in the short term.

Basically I just need a hell of a lot of advice from well learned people, like yourselves.;) ;)

Please help me, I need your opinions an advice, I really want to make the right 'next' move.

it's a straight choice between: do you want a house or do you want to take a chance in making a career that you really want?

If you want the house now, you should look for similar work to what you are doing now, and, once your settled in the new house, you can take a look at what your options are. Chances are that, once the deal is done, you'll be working for the bank for the next few years - lots of us have made that choice.

    OR

you can follow your heart, and put the plans for the house on the back-burner for a few years till you're doing a bit better in a media job. Every success story has tales of sacrifice - is this one of yours?

how important is a media career to you? How much confidence in your own ability to make it do you have?

it's not a choice I'd envy, I'd probably pick the first myself. I'm a coward really.;)
