anyone know if the Surround Sound Speakers are any good?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 64 ✭✭jamesjoyce

Yeah, my mate bought a set of these a while back. They are decent for the price (maybe a little distorted at very loud volumes) you won't get a set of 5.1 speakers for anything less! Good for casual movie watching and music if you don't want to spend too much money. These set of speakers only take an analogue source, no digital.

Hmmm, sounds good for a browse, but they never have HP compatible cartridges on sale for a good price.

Anyone get the (2 × 5 watt RMS) speakers?

Are they any good? I've had nothing but bad experience with Tevion products.

Those little speakers look good, and a bargain buy for €10: http://aldi.ie/special_buys/product_1312.html
For anyone thinking of buying a Dell computer soon these are a good buy. Dell usually don't include speakers in the price of their PC's; they charge €12 extra and their speakers don't look as stylish.

I see the PC is selling at the same price as the last time. I bought one last time round, as did one of my friends. It's a fine machine with an amazing array of connections for video and audio. Main prob I've had is that I can't get the 5.1 working from the coax digital output. Has worked only on playback of films on the program called Power DVD but nothing else. Has myself and my friend baffled. Only difference I can see between this PC and the one I got is that the processor has been upped from 1.86GHz to 2.13GHz - quite an increase for no increase in price. But it also comes with Vista installed rather than XP. Whether that's a good or a bad thing is a different matter

    I'm selling them on adverts

The surround speakers are pretty good, excellent for the price.
If you wana get proper 5.1 channels of sound you'll need a sound card with SPDIF output.
I believe the aldi pc has it.
I had to buy an external soundcard to get them to work on my laptop.

    They work great watching dvds.

    questions

1- do all usb hubs need external power?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 19,477 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

do all usb hubs need external power?
    1.1 hubs don't
2.0 generally do but there are some rechargable ones that take their power off the usb lead

Might get a set of those speakers. Look good....

I have the €10 speakers set up with my Desktop and I find them excellent. As someone else said they are alot more stylish than those from Dell

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,383 ✭✭✭highdef

They have SPDIF, optical and coaxial, inputs and outputs. 4 digital audio connections there. Also 7.1 analogue outputs. Video wise, there's VGA, HDMI, DVI, composite PAL, S-Video, Component video and a scart output - can't really complain about connections. Also RCA line inputs, composite video and S-video inputs up front and a card reader also built in. Quite a lot of bang for your money!!!

Update on that Aldi 320Gb External Hard Drive, I just saw a close up picture of this drive and it's got a SATA connector. So in theory if you had a SATA3 connector sticking out of your PC, and connected it to this drive it would transfer data at the SATA3 rate of 3Gbit/sec. That's impressive if it works. :)

Just to let you guys know i bought the 5.1 sound system and it dosent have any optical connections only 5.1 cinch. This suits me fine due to cinch connectors on my pc but just incase anyone was gonna buy one no digital connectors.
Sound quality is amazing by the way!

Pray they still have some left tomorrow. I totally forgot about this, and bought an X-fi the last day only for my speakers to break on almost the same day...

Id say you have nothing to worry about, there were plenty left when i got mine at about 10 this morning and i have seen these sets last in the shop for a week if not more, i believe many people are put off by the lack of coaxial/optical so they dont sell all that quickly, perfect if you have cinch of course :D

Yup, I was in two Aldi stores (Fonthill and Celbridge) yesterday after 8pm and they had some of them left in both. I wanted to get one of the external HDDs, but apparently these things sell out as soon as the shop opens!

Aldi in Galway don't have them at all - it seems they never had them?? No posters up, no stock, no prices....they don't have any of the stuff advertised in fact apart from the computer

They were never put out on plain view!
Walked the placeThursday,(not long after opening) though I'd got the wrong store/week, no stock anywhere. I was looking for the monitor, had to ask at the cash desk, got one brought out, saw the photo printers & HD's brought out from under cash desks when people asked if there was any stock.
Guess they thought it would be fairer to hide the good stuff until people ask:confused: .

They had plenty in Aldi in Maynooth about 30mins ago. Also a monitor if anyone was looking for one.

Ah feck sake...I didn't bother asking them. Probably will actually all be gone by the time I'm in again (Monday).

Well, the manager (or whoever) said there were "loads in stock", so maybe U might get lucky Monday.

Also, it's a Class II pixel defect product & mine has one stuck red dot (always on), not really noticable when browsing or watching movies, but can be seen on the ol win2K blue desktop & when using shells with a black background.
Since this is within the ISO spec, I really can't complain, however, if the monitors were out on display, & I has time to really read the spec, I might have reconsidered, but had no time at the checkout.

The speakers are lame, very lame, but maybe they always are on these types of monitors.

I'm reasonably happy, but not delighted, so maybe you might not have missed out afterall:)
