Hi we have a a3 flatbed scanner for all the dockets we handle at work and thats find.

However some drivers supply long reports off their handhels - .e 2.5 inch paper printout could be 4 or 5 feet or more

is there a scanner that will read these - maybe a hnadheld or somethign like those business card ones

it has to read the who docket not just a barcode - but as an image ocr not required

i found a Kodak one but its 7000.00 - looking for an affordable one I can persuade boss to get and reduce a significant workload

    much appreciate any help

Maybe you should try something like a mobile scanner such as one of these ..

It might be hard to keep a 4 or 5 foot long strip of paper running straight through something like that though, and I also wonder if the scanning software would cope with such non-standard document sizes, but you could always try contacting them and asking.

Might be easier to fold it into A4. Guillotine off the top and bottom ends. Then feed it through a scanner with a A4 feeder. We used to do this for scanning some stuff.

I'm confused by that. How do you "read" an image other than OCR? Is there barcode you need or something, or have you a specific app that reads in checkmarks etc.

Perhaps you get the data off the handheld electronically instead of the printout.

    hi

    thanks for the replies

what I meant re " needing to read whole document but not OCR" was I meant it needs to copy the whole document (as an image) rather than just a barcode, but only to file the document, the details are downloaded from handhelds, we have a major problem in storing the print offs.

An option is to guliitone the dockets and scan as a3 its just we are very short staffed and I just had this image of a hand held scanner that would runn down the whole docket and save, linda like those scanning pens but with a 2.5 inch width maybe
