HomeGrown – A New Irish Music Documentary to air on Dublin’s Phantom 105.2

Phantom 105.2 is delighted to announce that it will be broadcasting a new 6-part documentary series on the Irish independent music scene called HomeGrown starting on Tuesday, March 27th at 8.15PM.

2006 was an explosive year for Irish independent music with bands like Humanzi, The Immediate and Director leading a new generation of Irish talent. Now is the time we start to ask what exactly is happening with our music industry and what's being done to promote Irish bands abroad.

Presented by independent radio producer, Julien Clancy, HomeGrown asks whether enough is being done to support Irish acts both here and abroad as well as examining the industry bodies responsible for supporting and developing music talent in this country.

Over the series, HomeGrown features frank and candid interviews with key figures and stakeholders in the Irish music industry – formal bodies, record labels, promoters and the print and broadcast media including The Arts Council, Faction Records, IMRO, IRMA, First Music Contact, Aiken Promotions, Hot Press and Channel 6.

Clancy speaks with some of the best up and coming new breed of Irish talent, including The Blizzards, Delorentos, Channel One, The Things, Republic of Loose, The Mighty Stef and Ollie Cole (Turn). A number of live acoustic tracks were recorded especially for the series and will be featured over the coming weeks including songs by Messiah J & the Expert, The Immediate, Fionn Regan and Cowboy X.

In addition, HomeGrown traces a path from Ireland’s largest independent music festival - Hard Working Class Heroes through to the Irish presence at both the Popkomm Festival in Berlin and the CMJ Festival in New York. Featuring interviews from the festival organizers’, we'll also speak with participating Irish bands to see what exactly happens at these industry events and what their value to Irish bands seeking to break into international markets.

The HomeGrown .radio series was funded by the BCI Sound & Vision Broadcasting Funding Scheme and will be broadcast weekly on Phantom 105.2, Dublin starting on Tuesday, March 27th during the I-Con show at 20:15.
