Go to Start > Programs > Nero > Tools > Nero Info Tool and run it.

It should tell you after a minute all relevant info about your drive. Check to make sure it says in that what you can and can't write to as it might be incorrect media you are using. Also check the ASPI tab and see if that is alright or corrupt.

Nero 7 has lots of 'issues' with other software. If you are using DVD Shrink, Nero 7 will not work with it. I had to go back to Nero 6.

Can you find an old copy of Nero somewhere and see will the drive work with it?

Seems alright to me. Read and write with DVD-R there all ticked.

Is Nero 6 free? I'm not using DVD Shrink the only thing I have is Nero.

Is this the newest version of Nero or whatever came with the PC ?

If it is old download the newest one and install over the old one and see if anything changes.

Keep in mind Nero Recode only supports certain types of common video files these aren't anything exotic ?

Can't say I've ever had a problem with it myself. Have loads of various rippers/encoders/region free creating software on my computer and all works fine. No issues between any of them.

Uninstall Nero and run the Nero 7 clean tool to get rid of anything left behind.

    Now try re-installing the application.

What sort of key do you have is it an OEM version key ?

While Nero is not working ConvertXtoDVD will do the conversion for you in the mean time.
